    Ross Steering Gear Box

I was able to find a shop to rebuild the gearbox for me at a reasonable cost. Contact me via my Phone number, or PM and I can try to help you out.

    CAT D7E no hi drive?

Most likely Brazil, or Indonesia. D6G and D7G were built in both places I believe.

    Cat E series excavators

Pwrstroke6john I see a DoMor 707 in your list of machines. Didn't realize anyone from Texas would even know what that machine was, let alone own one. I live in the area of Michigan where those machines were built for the past 35 years. I sold for Cat for 25 years and the family that...

    Fine grading with gps

How tight is your blade? Seems you could easily have enough slop in the blade on an 8500 hour machine to throw your tolerance's off. If their is much movement/slop in the blade, circle and A frame the system might be overreacting to the movement in the blade and over-compensating for it...

    D6r trans questions/issues

Most obvious thing would be shift solenoids/valves. I'd start there.

    JD 550G vs. Cat D4?

If you purchase a long track in the D3/450 size class tractors the only difference is the blade size and 10 hp. They use the same frames that the D4/550 size tractors do. If you are using it for casual use like it sounds, you likely won't notice a difference between the two sizes. Jump up...

    JD 550G vs. Cat D4?

Drive trains on that size dozer should be at least 7-8K hours, if they have been maintained properly, on Cat and Deere machines. Condition of rental machines is all over the board. There are good ones and not so good ones. If it were me, I'd try to purchase a machine directly from an...

    JD 550G vs. Cat D4?

If this dozer has had an engine rebuild and worn tracks to the point of wearing into the pads from the backside, it probably has at least 6-8K hours, or more. It's common to change the hour meter at an engine rebuild, but the rebuild shop should have the hours before it was rebuilt. I...

    Ross Steering Gear Box

I am looking to find a Ross steering gear box with part number TA 612999, new, used, or rebuilt. I have a box that needs rebuilt, so if someone could rebuild it, that would work for me also. This gear box is from an Austin Western Grader, model 99H with mechanical steering. If...

Would this be a bad used first excavator to buy?

I would keep your money and keep looking. A machine that has been rented for most of it's life and has 2500 hours on it has been used and abused. Undercarriage is expensive. There's a reason why the guy is getting rid of it. If you do decide to buy, I would run it for a few hours, or see...

This is what Caterpillar says is a perfectly screed

That's unfortunate. Jim is a great guy and bent over backwards for my paving customers. I'm hearing lots of things have changed for the worse since the takeover by McAllister. Too bad!!

    Excavator joystick pattern changer

I agree with you wholeheartedly and it seems to be a great little aftermarket tool. I wish it had been available back when I was selling for Cat. It would have been a great alternative when customers requested a pattern change on their machine.

    Excavator joystick pattern changer

Pattern changer has been offered for the past 10 years, or so, on many manufacturers machines. It has been an option, but most dealers order it if there is any chance they may rent their machines. Pretty neat find if it can be fitted to mechanical linkage and pilot controlled HEX's.

Have you a very basic way to work out charge out rate ?

This is a very rudimentary method that I used to use for a quick and dirty charge out rate. Take monthly rental rate for your machine as if you were to rent it from a rental house. Divide the rental rate by 176 which will give you an hourly rate. To this you need to add per hour costs for...
