what makes a detroit run away?

I've been around alot of Detroit's but haven't had the priviledge to see one overspeed yet. We have 3 operable machines and 2 that aren't with 3-53's, one with a 2-53 and one with a 4-71. They have been fairly reliable engines with few problems but fnding parts for them is becoming more and...

    passed on the road today

Just looking at the picture, it appears to be a nice old tractor but for $20k that thing better be gold plated!

    Loading challenges

I was loading a Bobcat S175 on an old tri-axle equipment trailer. I had the forks on and not really thinking, I drove straight onto the trailer, or at least I attempted to. I bounced on the ramos when I hit the top and the front wheels of the machine came off of the ground. I froze! I was...

    where to find equipment

You can check Machinery Trader web site. I'd also check to see what your local dealers may have. When we went looking for our new backhoe, I checked all of the above plus our local Cat, Case, John Deere, Komatsu, and JCB dealers plus a few local independent dealers in about 100 mile radius.

JD 410 C on ebay in CT

If possible, I'd want to go look at it before I bid. I've read many a story here and elsewhere about someone buying a "work ready" machine only to have a long list of stuff to fix, the worst of which was major engine problems (see "My First Track Loader" thread). All of the major brands of 'hoes...

    more pics of equipment stuck!

Here's a shot I took of a Cat 14H Grader that got stuck in a soft spot on an access road to a new construction highway bridge. Ames Construction was the contractor. This happened about 2 years ago. I stopped along side the poor fella and he kinda shrugged his shoulders, I reached for a camera...

    Swamp Loggers ?

Swamp Loggers is a great show. I can tell that Bobby cares for his crew and his crew cares for him. They know that if they screw something up, they will man up to it. But if they do something above and beyond, Bobby will treat them right. That's the way to run a business. Thanks for...

    I've got my eye on a 580 super L

They do salt the roads quite a bit here in Kansas but there wasn't much rust on it. I got to talk to the previous owner for some time and he took excellent care of it to the point of power washing it before he out it back in the barn. We did buy it from a dealer (Coleman Equipment in Bonner...

    Pictures of your Backhoe!!!!!

That is prolly too much for the ol' B. But she could surprise you sometimes. I can't claim either machine as my own but they belong to an operating historical railroad I help out with (I did introduce myself in the new member area). I have a pretty good attatchment to the Super L as I was the...

    Hididily Ho, Neighborinos!

Howdy! I found this neat forum and decided to join! I wouldn't necessarily describe myself as a professional operator, but more of an weekend warrior. I volunteer for an operating historical railroad where I help maintain about 12 miles of track. In our arsenal is a Case 580SL, a Cat 955L...

    Pictures of your Backhoe!!!!!

After a very COLD day in December of '05 using the old 580B to unload railroad ties, I don't miss the open cab any more. The bad thing about this day is that we had to road the machine about 8 miles to unload a second truck because the truck we were using to trailer it decided to gel up it was...

    Pictures of your Backhoe!!!!!

Here is our tired old Case 580B I don't know how many hours are on this machine being as that stopped working long ago. It developed some transmission problems so we decided to replace it with something a bit newer. Our "new" machine is a 1997 (I think) Case 580 Super L Series 2 with cab...
