    Construction Implements Depot (CID) Grapple

May be a long shot, has anyone found Construction Implements Depot (CID) uses one off parts, sourced from foreign manufacturers, during a supply parts pinch? I bought a brand new CID XGR72T grapple a year ago. Nice piece of equipment. Works well. Tougher than nails. Zoom to 3 weeks ago, I...

    HMI Display on a 289D3

Ran it for 5 hours today. It worked perfect as did the backup camera the entire time. Go figure......

    HMI Display on a 289D3

I'll do that. My son-in-law works for the local CAT dealer. Maybe between a employee discount and a reman unit, the final cost won't hurt my wallet as bad. But, I think I'll wait until the thing is basically dead before I do it. It always works when it is cold.

    HMI Display on a 289D3

No, no codes set. Just my luck. This thing is gonna kill me, a thousand bucks at a time.......lol.

    HMI Display on a 289D3

The display on my 289D3 seems to go blank, but not completely. The display is on, it has power and the return arrow symbol remains illuminated in the bottom left hand corner. If running for an extended amount of time, the gauges come back up and are functioning properly. Then, out of the...

    Cat 289D3 high voltage alarm

Just a FYI, I replaced the alternator and it started charging right away. Ran it for about an hour tonight. Voltage is stable. Thanks everyone for your troubleshooting tips.

    Cat 289D3 high voltage alarm

I will have to make one clarification. When I said I was using an ohm meter, I did not have it set on the standard beeping continuity test. I know the positive and negative wires and cables had continuity. I performed a ohms resistance test, with my DVM manually set to milliohms. I was...

    Cat 289D3 high voltage alarm

As promised, I am letting you all know what I found. Since my initial message, I tried using the CTL again, and this time, it threw another low voltage alarm. Today, I checked the voltages with a DVM and sure enough, the alternator wasn't charging. Battery voltage was right at 12VDC while...

    Cat 289D3 high voltage alarm

See? This is why I come here to ask what seems to be to some, rather dumb questions. A wealth of knowledge amongst a big group of heavy equipment owners, which I appreciate......and then the MMQB's......

    Cat 289D3 high voltage alarm

Thanks for the replies. It was about to get dark tonight when I took the Cat over to the truck to be fueled up when it threw the code, so I didn't get a chance to check anything. I'll have some time to check it tomorrow. It may very well be the battery posts need cleaning. I'll check in...

    Cat 289D3 high voltage alarm

I have a 2021 289D3 and upon starting it this evening, it threw first, a amber alert on the HMI that it had detected high voltage. After a few seconds, I got the explanation point in the diamond idiot light, a beeping alarm and the amber alert changed from amber to red on the HMI. It gives me...

Freezing temps down in the south...

Yesterday, in 10 hours, we had 1.78" of freezing rain here in TN. All of that fell on 2" of fresh snow. Then, we just received another inch of dry snow on top of all of the ice. We have already met the forecasted high today of 17F. It will drop below zero tonight. The next few days are...

    Overload of the Day

I see that happening more and more in the area where I live. That has happened twice, on the same bridge, on two different occasions within the past year. We had a dump truck flip in the middle of the road in front of our farm, because the driver didn't realize the bed was up in the air and...
