    Mag pickup usually on bell housing unless they are using generator frequency and the generator is not putting out voltage. What control is being used?

    possibly the voltage regulator is faulty and voltage is going high and over voltage circuit is cutting it out. Both low and high voltage lights or flashing. Remove the exciter leads plus and minus apply 12 volts DC and watch the voltage.

    use a battery and put 12vdc on exciter leads marked F1 and F2 voltage output should be approx 200 vac if connected 120/240 volts 1 phase.

    3-71 1200 RPM 30kw 1800 RPM 50kw These sets were used on towboats for many years. Finding a 1200 rpm generator very difficult Most were Delco but not made anymore.
