1600 rpm and 3.08s with direct high, probably 62-64 depending on tire size.

No power change, I meant the governor can be reshimmed for more Rpm so you dont have to do the 10 mile pass on the interstate.

Yep, if it has STC, there's no electronics. And the pump can be jacked to get more RPM.;)

STC 330 is a lower powered Mechanical N14. STC stands for Step Timing Control, just a method to reduce white smoke at idle, the oil pressure control valve on them could be problematic at times and the engine would revert to smoking on start up. Some valves could be rebuilt others had to be...

    Detroit 6-71 wet stacking

I still think one of the best sounds was from the 12V71N in the old Wabco B-70 scrapers, they had the Nelson manifold mufflers and a set of 5" pipes through the hood. They did bellow, but it had a mellow tone to it. And yes I sat on several of them for a few hours.

Yeah, I know, 6 of one, half a dozen of another. Older doesn't bother me too much if it's in decent condition to start with. Got a customer running two '86 Petes (Pets) about 8,000 miles a month and they do well. Where you aren't trucking everyday and not looking to run maximum loads day in...

Yep. Seen quite a few in drill rig chassis that grossed out pretty heavy.

Spud... You do realize that N-14 is electronic, don't you?

3306 in cat d6d rainwater seized engine. need barring tool or ideas to unseize

There is a Cat tool for barring over 3300 series engines, I dont have the part numbers, but it has a spider that bolts to the starter opening and a pinion you shove through the center of the spider. It's about 650 bucks. I made a tool by cannibalizing an old starter. That's about the only way to...

Not sure about any of the parts, but a good 4BT would be a better choice without overstressing your drivetrain. And there are tons of 4BTs out there in farm equipment junkyards.

4 wheel park brakes is exactly why IH did that. The PP valve for the spring brakes also fed the interlock valve. Set the park brake and it locked the inter axle diff.

This^^^ In theory all 4 corners should pull an equal load with the inter-axle diff unlocked if they all have equal traction. I have seen some that would spin a front wheel every time before the interlock was thrown in... Usually those had a Detroit locker in the rear diff. Automatic self locker...

It's been 20 years or so, but I got the impression back then most of their stuff was from Montana or North Dakota from large wheat farms that were just upgrading their stuff. Look at the one you brought up... 350 ish thousand miles on an 81? That's pretty low compared to what I see locally. A...

    Sooooo... How's everyone's quarantine going?

I used to get Lime green short sleeve button up shirts with reflector strips on the pockets and the back from one of the laundry suppliers. I hate vests and tee shirts with a passion. The shirts were OSHA approved and pretty comfortable.

I've been back there to check out a few trucks myself. They do have a decent reputation. See a lot of grain trucks out here with their stickers and mudflaps on them.
