    Coolant stop-leak

I am not a big fan of using any of them , but as has been said, they are good if you're in a pinch. If you use them, when you do make the repair, the entire cooling system needs to be flushed and back flushed. Years back, there was a truck being used on a jobsite . It had a 573 Gasser that had a...

    287c issues

As Lee said, the 2nd switch from the back is the one that affects that Light. It should be in the middle position. Pressing the top will disable the hyd functions. Pressing the bottom will allow the aux hyd circuits/functions to operate with the arm rests raised. Another thing to check is the...

Even dead-heading with long but empty trailer requires permit?

The one way to be legal empty in Ca with the trl you are describing is to have a third axle lift for when you are dead heading. That along with a movable king pin/several kingpin settings, should allow you to make the 40 ft mark. If that doesn't do it then look at having both the center axle...

    Lowboy weight adjustment question?

Concerning the weight of the Oak. Fresh cut Oak weighs 12 lbs per bd foot in log form. After sawing that is reduced to 1/2 of that. Once it is dried you can reduce that some more, but not knowing the moisture content of what you have atm, all is speculation. Going from a 20% to 10% moisture...

    Lowboy weight adjustment question?

The new oak will be a bit heavier just by reason of thickness alone, and add to that if it is still "green" some more weight for the moisture content. The only thing in relation to the front coupling area that will change the weight distribution would be to move the kingpin back ,if you have...

You may be right about that. I haven't spent much time researching what's new on them.

The price I first heard for Cat Replacement Tracks was 5200. a set. That was for the tracks only. I priced them last month just on a lark and they had a special going on and the price was a good bit lower. 4600. sticks in my mind. You are right in your thinking on the steel tracks. I guess one...

    Would You Haul it ??

The lube film is probably a little less problem in relation to run off, but i alwaays looked at it as nothing stays on there for long, so whatever was handy. When I found my can of spray on was empty it was time to hit the fifth wheel for a dab of the extra grease that always seemed to be...

    Would You Haul it ??

Use a bit of lube on the screw binders. lube the screws as well as the cogs and the little "ball bearing that is in the handle for the directional control of the cog. Once you get the screws lubed well, that twisting problem should go away.

Need some purchasing advice from those who have been there...

I bought a 289C last Jan. I bought the Cat Industrial Grapple at the same time. Have added a fork attachment,a post hole digger attachment, and a Marshall Tree Saw since then. I just recently finished clearing an acre on a nearby mountain top. That area has plenty of rock outcroppings plus there...

Marshall Tree Saw ... does anyone use one here ?

Rockman, I have one. It is the larger model, 16" capacity. I bought it about 2 or so months ago. It works well for what it is intended to do. My reason for buying it was the fact that the saw teeth at the back along the moldboard hold you to the tree when you are cutting. If memory serves, I...

Installing planetary shafts in final drives?

Without digging into a book my self, the lowering of the temp on the shaft would be done with dry ice. Last one I did was a pivot shaft on a 9N. Buried it in dry ice for 2 days and still had to use another machine to push it thru. In your case, I'd bury the shaft in dry ice for at least a day...
