What do I need to be a machine operator?

most don’t begin as an operator. I think most begin as a laborer then move up to operator. Most anyone can sit on a seat to pull levers. It takes thousands of hours to become smooth and efficient. Then once you get better at the controls you must know the process for example while running an...

    Cleanout Bucket Size for EX50U

I have a 36" on my JD 50D. I have also twisted my boom with it. I use it a lot to prep for asphalt/ concrete and also cleaning up yards and such. The wider the bucket the harder it is on the pins and bushings.

Trench box for small residential work.

I have many GME boxes. I have a JD 50D excavator that I use a "lite shield" by GME. It is Very versatile to how it can be set up as 2,3,or 4 sides. The spreaders and be changed. I also have a couple of 6'h x8'long GME boxes and they are a bit heavy for the 50D. But they work fine with my 135D...

Estimating silt fence for my grading job in Georgia area. Any rough estimate ideas?

I use a Burchland Silt Fence Plow then put in the post afterwards. It is the highest quality fence to install. It gives me the option to shorten post spacing where necessary such as high concentrate flow areas. I use a Paslode cordless staple gun to fasten the lathe to the stake. When we...

Take a look at TT Technologies for pipe bursting. I have never personally used them on bursting yet but I have used them for pipe ramming gear. They are not cheap but they are very helpful and knowledgeable

    Small coffer dams?

I once thought about using Hancore Pipe for a coffer dam. Have it fabricated with caps on the ends and a port or two on the side. Then float out the pipe to where you need the dam and pump the pipe full of water and let it sink into the mud to seal the bottom. I have yet to have a project to...

    Starting Out On My Own

I incorporated in '07. I rented an JD 50D excavator for the first 6 months. I purchased a f350 truck and a trailer to move around the 50. That is about all I used the first year. I also purchased a '82 single axle dump for $4500.00. I paid for the truck on the first project. At the end of...

    compact loader vs skid steer

I'm a water and sewer contractor. I do a lot of HDD. I just purchased a JD 304J. We have close to 2000 hrs on it. The cost is higher than a skid but it will lift more travel faster and is much more comfortable to sit in for 10 hrs / day. I think they will last twice as long as a skid or CTL...

    Deere or Hitachi minis

I have a JD 50D The only problem I have had it he top track rollers both wore out at about 1600 hr. They were about 500.00 for the pair. When I ordered the new ones the dealer told me the numbers had been changed so I assume they made some modifications to the rollers. I have about 1800 hr...

    New Computer?

Now I've just have to get my wife on board. I'm really ready to buy one but she would have a fit if I did. I think that If I did buy one I probably wouldn't get her hands off of it then I'd have to buy another one. Then ditch the piece of crap (PC)

    Shop Vac to pull rope

We were doing some conduit install using HDD and we ended up getting mud in the pipe. We used our vac. That sucked out the pipe and the string. It was a 4" hose though.
