    Another 416C Steering Cylinder Leak

If the U-joints at the end of the cylinder rod don‘t come off, you’re stuck with removing the whole cylinder. Hence the spanner nut has to come off. The air chisel worked well to unthread the nut with no damage. If you need to replace the u-joints, CAT is not a good source - they want $239...

    Another 416C Steering Cylinder Leak

Local dealer being of no help. Going on 3 weeks, so far, waiting on a service call ……. For those doing this repair — After multiple failed attempts to remove the spanner nut using the longest cheater bar that would fit on a spanner wrench, I got the spanner nut off using an air impact chisel...

    Another 416C Steering Cylinder Leak

    Another 416C Steering Cylinder Leak

Anyone have a problem getting the knuckle to release from the cylinder ? The left one unthreaded fairly easily with a heat gun. The right one started to unthread about 3-4 rounds, then pretty much locked up. Additional heating did not loosen it. Without flats on the right end of the rod to...

    CAT D-Series Steering cylinder removal

Has anyone removed a steering cylinder from a 4wd 416/420/430D ? Having difficult time getting the cylinder retainer nut to loosen. Using an appropriate spanner wrench, and with a cheater pipe as long as possible.

    420e forks

On the (420)E series and prior models, you need to relieve the pressure in the IT hydraulic lines BEFORE disconnecting, or reconnecting the couplers. To do this, turn the engine off, then turn the key on -but do not start the engine- And cycle the thumb roller or lever, AND rack the loader...

    CAT 420D IT

With the valve on the loader in the vertical position, depending on which loader controller you have, either slide the thumb switch left and right, or use the roller. The yellow buttons are for electrical functions, not hydraulic functions like the MP bucket..

    CAT 420D Throttle Problems

Looks like the hand throttle cable is a 164-1079 and the foot throttle is a 148-1496. However, before replacing them check the hinge pin on the foot throttle pedal. They frequently corrode and prevent the pedal from returning to idle position. Lots of penetrating oil and working the pedal to...

    Cat 416 a wheel spacers

Yes spacers are available for C's and D's. They came with longer studs. I believe they were 1" thick. Thought I still had the PN but can't seem to. find it. Dealer can get it for you though.

results on a skid steer backhoe attachment

I've had one for about 8 years, with 12, 18, & 24" buckets. Bought it with a group of tools and didn't think I'd use it much, but it has come in very useful. I did remove the coupler as it took too much space. Keep in mind I also have a full size BHL. It comes in very handy when in tight areas...

    jenkins iron and steel

I have 2 of their attachments. A 84" grapple bucket and hydraulically 72"w x60" adjustable forks. They are well made - great fabrications. I'm sure I've overloaded them many times with no damage or bends. Can't say that for most manufacturers. Only shortcoming would be the hydraulic...

2002 420D front bucket quick connect problem

For the coupler pins to operate the valve handle needs to be horizontal. Then switch the valve handle vertical to operate a hydraulic bucket or tool.

2002 420D front bucket quick connect problem

On the D-Series you also have to rotate the manual valve out on the coupler after disconnecting the work tool hydraulic lines before activating the switch on the dash.

    289C Sticking Throttle

Mine is starting to stick as well. And no ice here ! (Florida - the only state without snow on the ground !) Cat is notorious for using non-plated pins on the throttle pedal - which corrode easily. My backhoe did the same and it took many shots of penetrating oil to free it - then keep it...
