7.3 diesel bring back the 7.3 diesel I have 2 with over 300,000 miles. No 6.0 or 6.4 will do that. AND he 7.3 isn't half bad to maintain for.

    Equipment Theft - Again

A couple of people tried to steal copper wiring out of a building I was working on. They cut into a high voltage line and got fried. Hopefully something like that happens to these thieves. that's one thing that drives me wild is people who steal.

    Fleet Management

It's all based on convienance, I have a few older loaders that I use just for snow. It's cheaper to do that than to go rent a loader for $3,000 a month. These machines are paid for. What machine are you wondering about?

Fly-By-Night on the gas and kicking a....

It's either feast or famine with work. It takes a while to get used to it, but you'll have to if you want to make it in this business. Figuring out the cost of maintenance is tough. Figure the mileage on how good a oil change is and divide that by the cost of the oil change. Same for tires...

How did you get your start as an operator?

I started off harassing my uncle who worked for a sewer and site company. I'd go with him on saturdays and during the summer. After that I bought an old dynahoe and mack six wheeler and started paving driveways. Now I very rarely get to run a machine. I do miss though digging around phone...

Becoming a Hydraulic Excavator Operator: Tips

Some guys are going to scream to go fast, but fast doesnt mean safe. And most utility companies are screamers. I've hired operators who came from other companies and they were surprised we didn't scream all day. Go slow when digging around utilities, always watch the laborers they seem to get...

how many feet of trench a day....?

Personal experience, In an 8 hour day I've done 315 feet of water main. That was with a Komatsu PC220. So 300 feet a day is safe to bid, because that included putting the pipe in, and backfilling.

    350l cat help

I couldn't give you exact measurements and capacities, but I do think the digging depth is somewhere around 35 ft. I have a Komatsu PC600 that'll go down 35 feet. I would call the Cat dealer near you and ask them for some information on it. I never owned a Cat 350, but I know some who have...

how many feet of trench a day....?

I would figure around 300 ft a day if backfilling isnt included. Also depends on how many hours a day you can work. But I'd figure somewhere around 300 feet.

    water sewer connection

The last thing you want to do is create a hazard for you or someone else to get hurt or killed in. Very rarely do I not use shoring. It's not worth the fine or even worse having someone killed. The deepest sewer I've done was a 30 foot easement. We had to drive sheeting for it. We did about...

    350l cat help

All depends on the work your going to be doing with it. If your doing demo work then you'd want a short stick for more breakout force. If your doing deep excavations a long stick would be better. But sometimes your better to have a short stick on a site job so you can move more material faster.
