KW 900 are you sure Friell lake was up in the upper Kitimat? I remember them coming to town in the early 80's and doing a bit of work on the Weedeene side of the valley and then they seemed to be in Hirsch creek forever. Upper Kitimat was logged by The old Eurocan crew which became...

That was branch 1000, river is the Weedeene. I lowbeded the excavator in there in the early 90's that deactivated that road. That pic is the rock cut and branch 800 on the other side of river. Spent many a days moose and goat hunting up there.

KW 900. I will say hi to Darrell for you. The gold and white Pacific in the back ground of one photo was a truck owned by Dale Owen. JJ was the one who broke me in on lowbeds. I would go out with him and swamp. Hell of a character. Seen him once for a few minutes over the last 20 years. His...

529 was driven by my buddy John Johnson that day. He hit ice and off the road he went. Just talked to Darrell Lowes an hour ago, he is still around. I know a lot of the other guys you mentioned as well in an earlier post.

    Off-Highway Self Loader

We had a guy running around here with a KW 850 and it was a self loader. It even came into the shop for some welding repairs. It was blue and loader was orange. That was back in the 80's last time I saw it. The guy had that and a FMC track skidder and was running around the valley logging small...

Two construction workers lose their lives by drowning.

You either wear the life jacket or the fall arrest , not both. Had a worker argue this exact thing a few years ago. Big company safety person wanted both and the guy tore a strip off of the safety person telling him that if the basket ends up in the drink you will find him suspended 10 or so...

    My first track loader!

While Grizzlies can pose their own set of problems, it is hard to accidentally step on them....LOL. I can go into a wooded area and know there is no bear around, to have to constantly "look" for snakes would drive me crazy. Do not know how people in snake country do it. My kids are always...

    My first track loader!

I will take the snow as well. We got just shy of 6ft in 36 hrs in early Feb. Had a Grizzly amble across the street today and walk across the empty lot next to our shop. 6th one I have seen in/near town in last few days. Take a bear over a snake any day. We do have garter snake as well as a...

    988b project

We have a 988B with quick attach bucket, forks and a stiff boom, used it to unload rail cars for a project. Nicest loader I have ever run. Power to spare. Where it is a real beast is feul up time. 700liter tank. Needed 2 new tires for the front $20+K for two installed. For a farm it would be a...

western canadian dozers, why the solid sheeting on top of sweeps?

falling debris in the bush. Exhaust pipe goes thru them. One D7 I ran had pipe flush and a heavy plate trap door that you had to remember to open.Closed it kept the rain out. Cheers LD

    Original pricing of antique machines?

I went thru the latest equipment advertiser here in the office. 966c's there is a 1971 - $33,000 , an 80' for $34000 and an 89 for $35,000. Those were dealers/brokers. Some private ads had 2- in the $25K area. 10 years from now they will still be in the same price range $25-35K. Cheers LD

    Original pricing of antique machines?

Nice list, add to that 966C's they use to be a dime a dozen, now a days you'd only get 8 for a dime, but still a lot of them around. I would like to know how many of the first batch of D3's to show up in BC are still working. I know of two early model D3's that are still going strong. I think...

Tips For a New Dozer Operator?

Yup, +1 , especially if you start costing him money, he will tune you up. Thaty is my tip, listen to the old timers that is how I got to be a decent cat skinner when I was running dozers. Listen, listen, listen and keep the eyes open as well, watch what they do. And don't think you are going to do...

    Original pricing of antique machines?

My first boss bought a 966 in 1968/9 he paid $18,000 for it and ran it for 10 years, sold it in the late 80's for $30,000. Those were the days. That will never happen again. He also bought a D6C in 1966 and I ran it in 1990 for him, when he shut in 97 I bet he got almost what he paid for it as...
