    Self Loading Logging Truck Photos

I believe it was a Savage. When Savage went away Ross Equipment built some of them and they were painted blue and sold as United. I had two they were no improvement over the Savage. Thanks for the trip back in time.

Info Request for Crown Self-Loaders used on Log Trucks

Definitely not a 3000 crown. They had a bigger frame, that big round tube that goes from the truck frame up to the rotec. Crown was bought by Ross Equipment their manufacturing company Danebo built a few then stopped making them. Ross sold Thunderbird to Madill and everything was gone after...

    Canada to US import question

I bought a log truck from a dealer in Canada. Series 60 not a single tag anywhere on the motor or truck about emissions. The computer was also wiped clean of any related info. So I don't know if it's needed or not. Been a few years ago and the EPA hasn't come knocking at the door.

    Air Disc verses Drum-brakes

Yep you got it. Last right of way I finished was 21 percent. Add in 20 miles of gravel to fill the drums full of dust and yes I've done a few brake jobs since 1972. Also new drums have less material and will not wear as long before they are too big in diameter.

    Air Disc verses Drum-brakes

I would imagine anything could be abused. Truck discs are a little different, no brake fluid to boil. Fellow I talked to with the log truck with discs said you can use them hard without worrying. I flipped my short logger years ago on a steep grade. Both feet on the brake pedal, tach was buried...

    Air Disc verses Drum-brakes

Drums fade discs don't, discs end up doing all the work in hard use.

    Air Disc verses Drum-brakes

Truck Shop, I believe I know why you are having disc brake problems. You are still running drum brakes on the trailers correct? Truck brakes are doing all the work. I can't afford a new truck but after talking with a few of the log truckers here, I'm really interested. One guy had 165,000 miles...

    6v92 detroit coolant in oil?

Pull the valve covers before you do anything else.Ive had three detroits that had injector tubes leak. Easy to see the problem, not an easy fix. The weep holes on the back side of the pump, hard to see but my thought is that's not he problem. I've never had a water pump seal leak to oil. I have...

    471 Detroit Diesel

From your picture of the block I wouldn't be afraid of it. Everything looks normal and pretty clean. Better than some I've seen. The block damage is most likely from dropping the head in a past overhaul. Seen it done! normally you would leave the governor rack rod in and rotate the head off the...

    471 Detroit Diesel

The reason I asked I've seen that damage before. Your O-ring in my opinion won't work. Not enough sealing surface and it's round. The genuine detroit o-rings I've found to be the best. They are a little thicker than the aftermarket variety. There isn't enough radiator pressure to push your...

    471 Detroit Diesel

When you took the head off, what did the o-ring look like that came out of the damaged hole in the block? Was it still stuck to the block or head and still round?

    471 Detroit Diesel

Mid eighties I hauled logs for a company that left their loader run all night. I really expected it to have a meltdown before they finished that job. It was a 4-53T with real low hours, I always assumed that was why it outlived that company and the next company that owned it. The two Detroits...

    471 Detroit Diesel

If this is the motor from your 666B as in your other post, it would be a 4-53. Completely different motor. The 666B's have a surge tank with a system fill line and a bleed line to remove the air from the system. And Clark changed the thermostat housing to help prevent some of the cooling...
