D5B Final Drive Leak, I think.

You will need to remove some track plates to gain access to the nut. Its not a big job. You just need a6-8 foot pipe for the wrench. Make sure you turn the nut in the right direction. I have done it before but its been a while so memory is a little fuzzy.

D5B Final Drive Leak, I think.

You shouldn't have to break the tracks to adjust bearings. The heavy duty spanner (7309) is what is called for by Cat.

    1975 D5 Caterpillar drain plugs

Dig as much of the muck as you can out of the hole. Next put plugs in holes. Put about 5-10 gallons of diesel fuel into clutch/ Brake compartments . Drive tractor around for a while then drain the compartments. Check the amount of muck still in compartment. If still excessive then repeat the...

Drilling holes oversize in track shoes

Try it with a slow speed drill and a tapered burr. You'll be impressed with how it works. I agree a die grinder would be a disaster. How hard are the track plates?

Drilling holes oversize in track shoes

Something to consider. I have used a carbide burr chucked in a cordless drill to enlarge holes in cultivator and chisel shanks made of spring steel. It worked slick and was fast. Use a tree shaped burr for best results.

    Tracking dozer a ways

We farm with steel tracks and will often travel 40 -50 miles in a day going round and round. 3/4 mile a few times a year would be nothing. Go for it.

    Deere 300b transmission engages slowly

My 310A does the same thing. There are adjustments that can be made to both forward and reverse to engage quicker or softer which ever you need. Start by adjusting the clutch , then the engagement speed. Unfortunately mine shifts slow and also slips in forward so I know the reverser needs...

1980 D4E Turbo low boost pressure

OK Great. You have it handled then. It will be interesting to hear the outcome after you are all done. Good luck Larry

1980 D4E Turbo low boost pressure

Jamie The sleeve metering system is pretty simple to work on. Wondering if you have a manual. The only thing to worry about is getting all the parts in the right configuration so you don't get a run away when you start it. I have tried to attach a copy of the Sleeve Metering Fuel System service...

1980 D4E Turbo low boost pressure

Hi Jamie Glad you have made progress. I bet if you replace the turbo you will get the results you are looking for. Won't hurt to replace the pump plungers either. I know it helped with the D7. We also have a D4E but don't use it much because it has issues similar to what you are experiencing...

1980 D4E Turbo low boost pressure

I went through this same thing on our D7 with a 3306. The fuel adjustment is located under the small housing in the middle of the pump housing in the picture. You basically add or subtract shims to allow the governor to open up more under full load. On ours the governor was worn out so first...

    D7G Steering

Thanks For the replies. I will check the suction side again as soon as I have time. Suction hose looks good and is flexible. Also want to try priming the pump.

    D7G Steering

Our D7G won't steer after sitting for an extended period. This last time it sat about 6 months and when we started it there was no steering in either direction. When it has happened before we were able to get it going by cleaning the magnetic strainer and changing the filter. At other times it...
