Cat 977K (SN: 11K839) - Looking for advice on value and whether or not to buy

Thanks, that's exactly what I based my offer of $3K on. I bought my last 977H from a scrapper who told me they are worth about $3K at scrap in this area. I was kinda suspicious of the engine firing right up as well but after it sat for over an hour it fired right back up instantly again and it...

Cat 977K (SN: 11K839) - Looking for advice on value and whether or not to buy

Greetings, I ran across a 977K (SN: 11K839) for sale in my area (US\Tennessee). It has been sitting for several years and has issues, of course! It has a blown hydraulic line for the bucket tilt. The starter doesn't work but we got it started by bonding the solenoid to the hot on the starter...

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

Thanks for that info. I didn’t realize that a rivetless option was available or possible. Is there a reputable company that you can recommend for sending the bands to? Something tells me it may be hit or miss locally. The service manual describes the removal of the clutches by using the brake...

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

I did replace the transmission filter. On the 977H it is on the right side of the engine and it does not have a magnetic inner part like the 977 K and L. The old beast does shift and drive forward and backwards perfectly. One thing I have not done yet is clean the suction screen filter in the...

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

Almost forgot to mention that when I replaced the filters in the clutch compartments, I could see the brake bands. Each looked to have maybe 1/4” of brake lining left. However, the right brake adjuster is turned all the way in and the left one is almost all the way in, and I have no braking on...

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

I am happy to report that all filters purchased from Cat have fit thus far! The 977H has been dropped off at the local mechanic. I am really hoping to get away with just a brake job. We did notice that the final drives were over filled. The mechanic said this could only happen by the internal...

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

I was lucky and found a local mechanic who works on older Cat equipment. We are going to have the 977H dropped off at his place around the first of the year. He is fully setup to do brakes, clutches, and more. I spent some time working on it yesterday in hope of squeaking out a little bit of...

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

I will be heading there tomorrow morning to swap out filters and transmission, bevel housing, and clutch compartment fluids and filters. I hope to have an answer to your question! And of course I hope the answer is yes, but I am cautiously optimistic.

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

For anyone wondering what filters to use for the transmission and clutch steering filter, I was given the following parts from my local Cat dealer. Both were in stock. Transmission oil filter: 1R-0659 Steering clutch filter: 1R-0729

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

I looked at a lot of pictures of D333C and 3306 motors and I am fairly certain that its a D333C in my 977H. By chance do you know the model number for the Cat fuel and oil filters I will need? I'm going to try to get all the oil and filters I'll need tomorrow at my local Cat dealer.

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

Thank you, I will contact them. I'm hoping that I just need brakes at this point.

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

Wow, thats amazing news on the engine! The 977H has sat for many years with no ROPS and with the covers loose on the brake adjusters. Water could definitely have come in there. I am going to get new oil and filter in there tomorrow to see if that helps the steering clutches. I will report back...

Should I buy this Cat 977H?

I still can't locate the original serial number. I know that it is in the later range of the 977H SNs so lets call it 53A5555 for now.

Should I buy this Cat 977H?
