Looking to buy a screener. Suggestions?

A friend of mine has a McCloskey trommel and really likes it. It's one of the older models, a 412 RT but it's still running with very few problems after 10 years of operation. This is a good article on choosing a screener...

    Replacing Operators with Technology

Cat has autonomous trucks doing all kinds of work in Australia, and the descriptions are scary for people in this industry: better efficiency, lower costs, etc. This is an article about it: https://www.constructionequipmentguide.com/cat-hosts-autonomous-haul-truck-demo-in-tinaja-hills-ariz/41871...

    Trimble GCSFlex

H.O. Penn held a showcase where they showed off some of the systems for grade control: https://www.constructionequipmentguide.com/ho-penn-holds-technology-and-equipment-showcase/39930 I think Trimble pretty much has the market for grade control technology. I can't think of any alternatives...

    Topcon auto level at-b4

I would call the closest dealership and ask if it's possible to buy the screws. There is a Topcon dealer locator here: https://www.constructionequipmentguide.com/dealer-locator/topcon/

    Dozer selection for scraper work.

I like CEG's charts for specs: https://dev.constructionequipmentguide.com/charts/crawler-dozers Don't know if they're any better than Ritchie Bros. though. This is an article on how to calculate drawbar pull: https://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-parts/towing/equipment/tow-bars/drawbar-pull1.htm

EquipmentWatch has a specpro tool that will tell you the specs for almost any equipment, so that would help you find other equipment that would have similar size parts and maybe you could just buy a part. The problem is it's $200 a year for full access to their database. I don't know though...

Moving over from excavator. Got advice on best backhoes?

JCB makes a compact backhoe loader, model 3cx that has pilot controls. I've seen them in the $30,000 range but you have a lot more options if you can go up to $40,000. There are some here: https://www.constructionequipmentguide.com/used-equipment/jcb/backhoe-loaders/3cx/ I think these are the...

    Leveling/Grading with front bucket

Ask for some extra hours on the machine and practice practice practice. That's really the only way to learn. The instructor will probably give you some extra time if you ask.

Good old Iron versus new stuff

Sorry, but I'm for air-conditioned cabs. It gets hot out here in the summer!

    D6T opinions

I've never used a D6T, but this is their press release: https://www.constructionequipmentguide.com/cat-d6t-features-optimum-fuel-efficiency-fully-automatic-transmission-and-technology-to-match-the-job/32912 It comes standard with slope assist, which is nice. It gets good reviews from...

    Dealer service rates

The funny thing is the GlassDoor is saying equipment mechanics only make $46,000 per year: https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/heavy-equipment-mechanic-salary-SRCH_KO0,24.htm That doesn't seem right. According to this survey by Construction Craft, in 2015, equipment mechnics were making around...

Deutz F3L 1011 repair manual needed

Is this it? https://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/280192146-deutz-1011f-1011-f-engine-full-service?a=516802 That is a PDF. I don't understand why it's only $15. They also have it here for $400: https://www.deutzpartsdirect.com/deutz-1011-service-manuals but that's more expensive and it's the...

I hate to be that guy...

I'm not clear whether you need help choosing an excavator, choosing an operator or getting cleared to rent the excavator out. If you need help choosing an excavator, there's some information about that on Plantman's site: http://www.plantman.com.au/guide-how-to-choose-your-next-excavator/ Once...

Anyone know of a tool that tells you what equipment to buy based on specs?

I'm wondering if there's a tool where I can enter the specs I want such as payload capacity, net power, etc. and have it spit back different makes and models that meet those specs. I know Construction Magazine has a specpro tool for $200 per year, but I e-mailed them and they said that I have to...
