    C15 cam gear timing question

I feel better knowing that, thanks. TBH my brain was hurting trying to understand what they mean by this. After I posted I thought about the cam dowel, then thought how is that even possible . Ahart it's a constant battle. Customer made an informed choice I'll say that much.

    C15 cam gear timing question

Just replaced a crankshaft in an LHX C15 from a Cat 740. Have gone through timing procedure, mounted front housing and this is where I’m at on the cam gear. The book mentions if you set it to #6 TDC compression instead of #1 you will be half a tooth out on the cam gear (stops short in saying...

    Cat 259D wiring schematic?

Why would we consider replacing ECM's without checking voltage on the sensor circuit? Just sayin. Scanner will only read the information supplied through the data link, which comes from ECMs, which comes from sensors.

    CAT 740 Dumper

Pretty sure Transmission Fill Calibration will just abort with active codes, but worth a shot. The harness code plug is an input to the Transmission ECM. Is the Transmission ECM getting the right information? Ahart is right, get onto the 650-5 code first. Also, when you swapped over the...

Cat 257B Aux hydraulics only work in one direction

If the new ECM works well why not give them a plug and share where you bought it from? Sounds like good value to me. Might help out the next person.

    Cat 259D wiring schematic?

My money’s on the sensor. But who knows, that’s why we troubleshoot. I’d prioritise getting voltage readings from the circuit before anything else.

    Cat 259D wiring schematic?

So am I. It should also throw another code when you jumper the two wires. Below .1 volts and above 4.9 volts on the signal wire are supposed to be the trip points. Spoons are great but I'm not sure you'll be able to get them in there in that location. You might. Just do what you need to do and...

    Final Drive Oil Analysis

I reckon it will be magnetic. That thing is worth $90 down here. If it's not somebody should be put in jail.

    Cat 259D wiring schematic?

Horrible sensor to get to. Need to check voltage across those wires with the sensor plugged in somehow. Signal wire voltage should vary between .1 and 4.9 volts or close to it. Start and warm engine. If the voltage doesn't change well that explains what the display is showing (sensor or eng...

336E Hydraulic Boom Down and Bucket problem

Thought this question might've generated more discussion too. I'm working on it, but there's more experienced folks here that already have the knowledge. At first glance I'd say this was a resolver issue. But after reading up it could be something else causing a pump stroking issue. There are 2...

    Final Drive Oil Analysis

Does that $3 plug have a magnet in it that saves your final drive from early destruction? $50 is cheap when you see the price of a new drive motor.

    Final Drive Oil Analysis

Absolutely. When you buy a service kit from Cat you get oil sample bottles included. Taking a FD oil sample is part of the service. What oil comes out must go back in to maintain the oil level. The compartment as mentioned holds less than a litre of oil. I've got no problem letting all .8...

Cat 289d track tensioner blew seal

Also inside your undercarriage, with the front idler and tensioner removed, what did the plate look like that the tensioner sits up against? They can punch holes through that plate if they're worn enough.

Cat 289d track tensioner blew seal

It can. Driving back and forth a few times can help. So can running a steel bar or two through the drive motor sprocket. I usually help it by lifting up the top of the track with a forklift tyne. Out of curiosity, how old are your tracks? I wonder if they have stretched too far causing over...

    Brush Cutter

Really should proof read my posts. I meant the thumbwheel on your RH joystick and the swing/auxiliary manifold.
