    you should not have to do a log book within 50 or 100 miles of your home base. with farm plates alot of that stuff is not necessary. im oregon may not be the same california

    keep the motor compartment blown out several times a day, seen to many go up in smoke from trash on the manifold. go with the Cat 299, get it with steel tracks if you are going to do only mulching, stumps and rocks are hard on rubber tracks

    another option is to put 1/2 flat bar on its side in the concrete floor so the edge is level with the top of the floor about 18 inches apart . that is what Caterpillar had at the crawler tractor plant so when the machines came off of the line and out to the yard it would not eat the concrete .

    angle the blade all the way to 1 side or the other it will cut a flat, i do it on may cat d5h xl and it works good

    my guess is that they stole the good tracks off of it and thru some junk on it, i have seen this a few times on cats at auctions where pins and bushings and sprockets and rollers are dragging in strange places.

    you might just cut your loses, this thing sounds like a money pit. dont know what you paid but you could end up putting more money in it than just junking it and starting out on a machine you know something about. (just my 2 cents)

    JD 850J How to rebuild blade

    like has been said re skin it , if you are going to keep pushing scrappers i would put an additional 4 foot wide piece 1/2 in. thick in the center to keep from doing it again .
