Story About a Grader sold in Africa ?

Was it in Rwanda? They had a genocide back in 1994 or so. One half the population just decided to whack the other half, and almost wiped them out, sadly.

Want to start a crane rental business, but not really sure.

P&H is a good rig, BUT, it has master and slave cylinders with brake fluid to actuate the frictions. Not a bad system, but it requires a bit of maintenance. You might be better off with air controls like an old American. Hope this helps.

Why do you rarely see jackhammers and air compressors?

I never ran a 966B, but I did operate a few 966Cs and early 950s and I liked them. The new ones may be a little more comfortable, but those loaders were not bad at all. Very reliable.

    977H pulled the trigger.

The early 977s had D6 undercarriage parts. At some point before the H came out, Cat changed to D7 undercarriage. I don't know which series was the first to change. It was D or E. So check it out carefully before buying a parts machine. Hope this helps.

Trying to estimate time it will take me to build a road

I agree, the water must have a place to go where it won't cause flooding. If there is low rainfall there they might get away with it for a while, but they will probably get called back the first rainstorm.

    Worker shortage

I think there is a lot of truth to that. You know how as kids grow up, some go down one path, and some the opposite? I think about kids I grew up with who went down the wrong road. I could just have easily gone down that road if I had not had a good family. My parents were involved in my life...

    Worker shortage

I hope you know I wasn't picking on drivers! I just was frustrated with people who didn't know the difference between a dozer and a truck!

    Worker shortage

I was lectured in almost those exact words as a child when I said I wanted to be operator like my Dad. Or the teachers would go off on a tirade about "truck drivers" not even knowing that is a different occupation than operator. When they humiliate a child in front of his peers for what he wants...

Excellent! People just don't seem to understand that we can't see everything from the seat.

Why do vintage excavators have the boom on the left?

You're absolutely right. But around here I saw a few bigger machines moved on a lowbed with the hoe operator in the cab to swing when going around corners. I guess it was too high folded in? So if you're on the right side, the lowboy driver should be able to see your side of the cab in the...

Why do vintage excavators have the boom on the left?

I think it was just tradition from the old cable machines. I ran a few old machines with right side cab, I didn't have a problem with it. (I was just breaking in then, so I didn't have anything to compare it to)

    Kill Dozer - Tread Documentary

I know the town officials provoked and antagonized him, that will drive anyone crazy. So, I kind of understand where he was coming from. But he could have hurt a lot of innocent people in that town. He was demoing buildings with live humans inside, and the power still turned on. It was a...
