Squeal and vibration from joystick control Bobcat 334

Recently when operating my Bobcat 334, I noticed an occasional squealing noise coming from the RH joystick. There was no noise when I wasn't touching the control, and no noise if I moved it full in one direction, but it seemed that occasionally when feathering the arm or bucket it would emit a...

Gland seal leak - first time rebuild questions and tips

Thanks. Any thoughts on cleaning up the aluminum pieces that have obvious surface scratches? Is that commonly done? I can't tell if that will cause more harm than good...my gut says any scratch smoothed out is better than left as is.

Gland seal leak - first time rebuild questions and tips

Just to make sure I understand - are you talking about sanding the rod or the inside of the gland? Both?

Gland seal leak - first time rebuild questions and tips

Thanks guys - I didn't post a picture of the piston but that has some rough edges on its outside diameter. I actually could not remove the piston from the cylinder when it was fully retracted, I had to push it out most of the way with the power of the machine before finishing it by hand. Is it...

Gland seal leak - first time rebuild questions and tips

My Bobcat 334 developed a leak on the boom cylinder between the gland and rod. I've never rebuilt a cylinder before and this is a home owner machine (with a home owner budget). I was hoping someone could tell me where I'm wrong and what else I should consider. I got the thing apart, cleaned...

    Non-threaded fuel tank drain plug - 2001 Bobcat 334

The manual for this machine suggests that sediment/water can be drained from the tank, but doesn't give any pictures or instructions. In the front right of the machine, I can see a steel plug pressed into a rubber bushing. I was surprised that the drain plug wasn't a threaded bolt. If I pull...

Bobcat manual xchange won't lock bucket in - new owner

Yes you have it right, all the way back seems to allow the clamping pad to return...if the springs can move it.

Bobcat manual xchange won't lock bucket in - new owner

Thanks for the tips guys! I soaked it in penetrating oil and let it sit. I rocked the bucket back and forth a few times. It seems from staring at it that the bucket cylinder needs to be retracted, it looks like that increases pressure on the "return" spring and also moves a cam out of the way...

Bobcat manual xchange won't lock bucket in - new owner

Yeah, when does the spring release? Is it when the bucket cylinder is retracted? It looked like it hadn't been greased. I found three greased fittings. I got one greased. The two that were for a rod that's pinned on one side wouldn't take any grease. I took the pin out and hammered the rod to...

Bobcat manual xchange won't lock bucket in - new owner

I recently purchased a 2001 bobcat 334, which has the older non-hydraulic xchange. I know this system can be finicky. I've never used one of these so I dont know how it's supposed to work, but I was able to insert the tool and retract the spring loaded pad that holds the bucket in place, but...
