    Allis Chalmers backhoe

Could be lots of things. The clutch pedal just controls a valve that dumps hydraulic pressure so the reverser trans can't engage. I'd start looking there. Then the reverser trans... A simple automatic transmission with a planetary gearset and clutch to reverse the input going to the manual...

    Case 580k basket case project!

"Being a fitter, I need to "do it myself" I actually enjoy the process (yeah...I'm strange) Hey, half the stuff I own is crap that I've fixed/built up myself." I love that! My philosophy exactly!

    Allis 715b Shuttle transmission

I think I have a bad rear seal on my shuttle trans, and/or a bad input shaft seal on the 4 speed. The 4 speed trans was overfilled, so I drained and refilled it for a baseline. (haven't re-checked it yet.) The shuttle trans and converter were drained and refilled with Dexron (according to the...

Reverser Oil My 715B manual calls for Dexron. I drained the sump and converter, as well as changed the spin on filter. For level check, the book says to warm it up, move the selector from fwd to reverse and shut down. Immediately check the level. Kind of an unusual procedure... but guess that's...

    Need advice on 1st backhoe

Tools for new equipment owners I was looking around Harbor Freight the other day... they have large sockets and wrenches. Before anyone gets excited, I'm only suggesting this for us backyard guys! I'm planning to buy some large wrenches for working on my backhoe. I have a pretty complete shop...

    Pictures of your Backhoe!!!!!

Ya, 2 years ago we got a freak 7" snowfall. We've been in the Arkansas river valley for about 3 years, and what little snow we get Mother nature takes away in a day or two. Not so in Northern Michigan! One thing about retirement, I can wait it out! They get quite a bit more in the mountains...

snow Maybe you guys should start a thread about snow and moving it around... When I was young I enjoyed it, but after 24 years of snow I moved South to get away from it! (...and the salt & corrosion that goes with it!)

    Michigan 75a loader

fuel pump My Allis 715 TLB came with the mechanical lift pump bypassed, and an in line electric fuel pump. It seems to work well, and sure makes bleeding the fuel filters easy. Northern, I suspect you will have to observe polarity, and with a one wire pump that may be a concern. My pump has 2...

    Michigan 75a loader

Deep cycle battery? Great to see you guys keeping the old Iron working! They were certainly designed for a long life. Northern, I suggest you use a battery designed for the job. Deep cycles are designed for low current constant loads, as well as to be discharged repeatedly during their life (RV...

Allis Chalmers 715B I'm hoping to hear from someone with experience with these hoes. Mine runs and operates fine... but I'm learning. The list of stuff I've done so far includes: 4 cylinders rebuilt (2 loader tilt & 2 boom swing), rebuild alternator, 1 Hose replaced, w/s wiper repaired...

Allis Chalmers 715B Orphan Here's a picture of my Allis... 1982. I gather there not many of these around, but I've found it to be an affordable machine (6k) for working around our property. Having spent my career in the Automotive repair industry, this my first Diesel, and first piece of...

    Need advice on 1st backhoe

I'm a new to this as well. Found mine on Craigs List! Use their search feature, it works well. BTW, bigger may not always be better, sometimes you can do more damage with a heavier machine. We've had a lot of wet weather this year, so I have to be real careful where I leave tracks....
