    Ditching

That was freaky, those trees in the background growing upside down. You should get a CAT grader operators manual. The old ones contained lots of info with pics on ditching and levee work, such as delivering a winrow between the wheels.

    Cat d4g won't move

The problem is resolved: The steering module went inoperable, locking up all machine track movement. At the same time, the ECM calibrations were apparently erased. Installed new steering module, flashed data to the ECM and re-calibrated. So far, so good. The CAT man had to work on this one...

2005 D4G loss of power but not in engine

What the heck is it with these D4G's, anyway? Could be something in the radiator water, or could be the Mitsubishi coming out.

    Cat d4g won't move

Unfortunately, the original CAT fuel filter with the electronic drain has been tossed, and apparently now is available only without the electronic drain. Also unfortunate is the fact that there is no independent mechanic immediately available nearby. But it begs the question, since the...

Control pattern for the new M series graders and new pics

Interesting comment, Radrock, about the M Series graders being designed for the younger generation. A state highway dept. forman was telling me the other day they have a problem state-wide with the younger grader operators. Seems these whipper-snappers as a whole have never run anything but M...

What if we had New Control Pattern on the M Series Graders?

For me, the E and the F Models remain the best fine grade machines. The center of gravity was lower, so there was less rocking, providing more stability. Lower the tire pressure to 17 lbs. all the way around and there was less bounce. These outdated machines will out grade a G Model and anything...

    Cat d4g won't move

Well, we are finally back online here still having the same trouble with D5G tracks locked up. First, the official serial no. is the first one given: SERIAL/PIN # CATOOD4GAHYDOO836 We have installed a new CAT fuel filter and the pump primed the system OK. Incidentally, this new CAT...

What if we had New Control Pattern on the M Series Graders?

Congrats, Radrock, that was excellent rant about how crappy is the M Series for fine grading. Yes, the wheel lean is one big problema. I reject any revision of the joy stick controls. My contempt for this machine is based on exactly 40 years this year of on-again, off-again cumulative experience...

Has cat backedtracked on the m series graders

Radrock, don't hold you breath waiting for improved steering for the M Series. CAT has worked on the problem since day one, and done innumerable software changes on machines in service. It's not adding up. CAT probably won't say so, but it appears to me the M Series was designed for GPS...

Control pattern for the new M series graders and new pics

The increased visibility of the M Series is a bunch of hooey, it doesn't add a thing. As a matter of fact, it detracts. All you need to see are the blade ends and the material going in and coming out. You just know what's going on in the middle. If you're an operator. Drivers, yea, they might...

    Cat d4g won't move

Nige, a new CAT fuel filter comes without the electrical hookup for water detection, same at aftermarket. We'll see what happens this weekend. justingiffi, your symptoms sound like water in the fuel, regardless of a warning light message to that affect on no, except for the sudden immobility...

    Fiat-Allis FD80 won't move

LOL, you are the third guy posting here in a week with a hydrostatic dozer that's locked up. I'm # 2. Yes, I'm number two. Number two of course is a polite way to reference something...well,you know. I have deduced that my problem on a D5G is probably electrical and will be getting some...

Has cat backedtracked on the m series graders

Come to think of it, I don't see Komatsu graders around anymore. It's all M Series machines around here, and most of them stay parked with no operator is sight. A T.L. James mechanic told me once that most H Series graders need a transmission overhaul around 7,000 hours. If anybody knew...

    Cat d4g won't move

Well, that serial number I posted is incorrect. That is the Product ID number. CAT clerical error, I reckon. The correct serial number is MHK04990. Nige, that upper right hand dash light goes out after the initial come-on. Just like some women I have known. Anyway, perhaps there is no...

    Cat d4g won't move

Apologies for the delay in responding, folks. A letter in 2007 from CAT regarding a software issue gave the serial number of this machine as: SERIAL/PIN # CATOOD4GAHYDOO836 I will be able to confirm that number is on the machine in the morning and determine if the exclamation point on the...
