Making Up Your Own Hydraulic Hoses

I don't have the measurements, but, for the T-400 "u" series collets you need the T-400-8 Die Ring (BOWL) Unless you are a skilled machinist I do not think it is practical to make one. Both the collets and the bowl are hardened and quite precision pieces. You may have to go new for a few of your...

Making Up Your Own Hydraulic Hoses

I found good used dies, rings and die bowl on eBay. They were much less than new. Study up on the parts to make sure they are all compatible and will crimp the right hose series for your application.

Making Up Your Own Hydraulic Hoses

My 1968 Ford 5500 has about fifty hydraulic hoses, many original. I knew I could not afford to have that many hoses made. I found that Weatherhead makes a kit to crimp hoses on a hydraulic press and Couplamatic makes a hand operated press using a hydraulic jack. I liked the slanted back design...

Ford 5500 Rehab: I Love This Machine!

Thanks CasIns. Ford seemed to have overbuilt the 5500/5550 so I felt that it was worth the investment, mostly time. Most of the hoses were original from 1968, so about 44 years old! I built a press rig, bought used dies, rings and die bowl on eBay and make the hoses up quite inexpensively. Most...

Ford 5500 Rehab: I Love This Machine!

It was love at first sight. OK it has a face only a mother could love. Saw it on Craig's List and I knew it had to be mine. All the stars and planets must have been aligned. Located in the next town over about 5 miles away. She was very rough. Leaky, smoked like an old hooker and I just couldn't...

    Ford backhoe Any ideas?

Yes, please provide the link to your Brockhouse parts supplier. Good bit of info on the origin of the shuttle transmission.

    Ford backhoe Any ideas?

The shuttle shift transmission on the 5500 is basically like an 1 speed automatic transmission. It has a hydraulically operated clutch for forward and one for reverse. Assuming the shift linkage is properly engaging the shift valve then the problem is likely in the shuttle transmission unit...

Anyone Have an idea what year this Ford 5500 backhoe is?

How To Determine Year of Ford 5500 My response is late but I've been working on my 5500 for months now. I have a 5500 that I have been restoring and working with on my property. There is a boss on the right side of the transmission housing, just above/behind the starter that has the serial...
