I just saw this and don't know if you ever had this answered. The tooth spacing on the drum is the difference.

Diamonds are great in asphalt, but they do not hold up to any kind of impact. Concrete destroys them in no time. Also, milling around manholes, water meters, or anything else in asphalt runs the risk of destroying the diamonds. They are only cost efficient if used when there is no chance of...

    Cat pm102

The 102 should do all you need it to. You don't see that many Cat machines out because not all dealers push them very much. There are a few dealers that have their areas saturated with Cat Yellow. Wirtgens are good machines, but service and parts are their downside. New Roadtec machines will...

    work

Don't really know any milling only contractors based there, but just a few general contractors that have their own milling crews are Angel Brothers, Williams Brothers, Southern Crushed Concrete (formally W W Webber), Forde Construction, Main Lane Construction, and Texas Sterling. There are more...

    Lets see your Teeth

I've seen several milling contractors do their own independent testing of cryogenically treated teeth. Most say they can not see any difference in the wear characteristics between treated and untreated teeth.

Kennametal 301 system is the best I have used. I would go with the Roadtec. You can order them with a Kennametal drum. The 301 is easy to change in the field if you break one and the bases are the biggest heavy duty weld on bases I think anyone has in common. Also, the holders can be changed...

    Lets see your Teeth

The rate of wear really depends on several factors. The aggregate being cut is first. All the tooth companies make several different styles and sizes of teeth. They don't do that just because they want to. They have discovered over the years that different teeth work in different conditions...

    Volvo / IR - MT2000

If you had to hold the override button down just to load it, I would suggest checking the oil before unloading it. It is probably 1/2 a gallon low if the engine is shutting down on that short of an incline.

    W2100 vs W2000

I would think that as long as the hole is still centered, a slightly larger plug should still seat properly on the holder and secure it firmly in place.

    W2100 vs W2000

I think Kennametal and Wirtgen drums are going to be in the same ball park price wise, but Kennametal puts a 3 year warranty on their drums. I don't believe anyone else does anything even close to that.

    W2100 vs W2000

Kennametal drums leave a much better pattern than any Wirtgen drum we have ever used.

After market track rails advice needed!

Another big factor on chain wear is running with worn out track pads. Poly or rubber pads decrease the overall vibration of the unit, therefore decreasing wear. Keeping good pads on the chains will increase the life of the track chains and other under carriage components.

    Rebuild Season

This forum has been very quiet lately. Is this because everyone is done for the season and working on their machines? And if so, what type of maintenance/repairs is everybody doing?

    Lets see your Teeth

That new Sandvik tooth doesn't seat fully on the washer. I think they did this to get a puller under the tooth. Good idea. Too much shank sticking out above the holder means the shank breaks in hard material. Bad idea.
