    First large excavator recommendations

I've got 50 acres of hilly, steep terrain full of massive (in some cases 200+ foot) trees, mix of redwood, oak, and fir. I'm looking at buying my first large excavator soon. I have a TB135 mini, which has been a real trooper of a machine, but for large land clearing, road and building...

    Dozer size recommendation

I've got 50 acres of hilly, steep terrain full of massive (in some cases 200+ foot) trees, mix of redwood, oak, and fir. I'm looking at buying my first Dozer soon. I've rented a Deere 450H for construction work, and liked it and the hydrostatic drive a LOT. That said, I think I will...

    Cat D4 vs Deere 450

That makes sense, it felt very similar. What would you guys recommend for a first dozer? Wow I didn't realize the D6 range varied that much.

    Cat D4 vs Deere 450

Just found out it was infact an '04 hydrostatic 450H deere we rented. Here's a of the boss actually running a machine for a change ;) it felt like a pretty good ground pusher, felt on par wtih the cat D4G (low drive, I think it's hydrostatic too.) What do you all think about high vs low...

    Cat D4 vs Deere 450

I've been thinking of picking up a Cat D4 (not sure if I want either a low or high machine, steep slope work is in our future, but I like the idea of the high drive to avoid breaking finals.) We just rented an 04 Deere 450G and the guys liked it a lot. I know enough to know I want a fully...

Some pics of my current project

Cool stuff! I love big long jobs like that you can really sink into and optomize your process. An operator like you who you can send out 'standalone' is worth their weight in gold, wish I had 10 like ya. That's a lot of dry sandy uncompacted backfill, think they'll see any real movement...

    Single Axle Roll Off

How tall are you with that Ex on top? Over 9'? How's the balance? What's the wheelbase on your truck? I'm trying to decide between a single axle and dual roll-off myself.

    Deep compression with 365c

That's one way to do it! Talk about thick lifts. (or rather, no lifts).

    Cleaning & undercarriages.

Full cleaning (which in my opinion requires about an hour and a BIG pressure washer, preferably heated) or just knocking the dirt off with a shovel?

    Pathetic operator

Woah, big tipoff there. Any good operator will show up in BOOTS, I don't care if all they do is walk 15 feet through dirt to their cab and back once at the begining and end of the day, they will have a good set of (usually steel toed) boots.

    Cool Demolition Jobs!

I like that Q/C, any idea on pricing or reliability over a regular hydraulic pin-grapper?

    Excavator mounted compactors

Viberatory plate or roller? I'm thinking about one for our little Deere 35ZTS, also a much larger device for a Cat 320.

    Quick-couplers w hydraulic lines

Anyone have any expierence with a quick coupler that also connects hydraluic lines? Any specific brands stand out for long wear and keeping the connections clean and dirt free? http://www.aggregatepros.com/AlluOilQuickCoupler.html
