My hats off to you wrench pullers that can diagnose any of this new stuff. Wife jumped in the truck to go to work this evening, and she came back in and said there is something wrong with the truck. I went out and got the big wrench, and the advancetrac warning plus a downhill descent fault. I did what any good operator would do, I shut it down and started it again. No luck, I'm stumped. drive it. I went on line and found horror stories about the same thing, plus signal lights not working, and leading up to changing the rack and pinion. A dealer job as the unit has to be calabrated to your truck when it is installed. Then I remembered, that I had just changed the air filter, and unplugged the MAF sensor to do so. At that moment, my dog ran out to see my young spandex wearing neighbour walking her dog. I didn't remember plugging it back in. Wife calls from work, said truck worked bad, and she was not driving it home. Told her to open the hood and take a picture and send it to my FB. Sends picture. Another one more to the right. Not plugged in. Dam small head, stop distracting big head. Explained how to plug in with red tab on bottom, then push red tab in. Light out, everything works fine. Never in my life would I figure that a mass airflow sensor would affect traction control, and signal lights. Never should have got rid of points and condensers.

Her husband is a cop. Nice young fella, but still a cop. 2013, but just a halfton, so the 5 liter, or what they call a 5 liter. The company bought a new F 600 this summer. They did away with the overhead cams, and went back to a push rod engine in the 6.8

In all actuality the problem is New Enganears trying to cram too much NON Essential crap up our Asses for 'Convenience', as with the wife's 2017 Exploder and auto seat cool or heat along with all the other distracting crap on the touch screen. Needs are A Car or A Truck that does functions as Haul people, materials while maintains a reasonable comfort level with a radio(Up for value debate!) starts readily and gets reasonable mileage.

I just bought a new to me Case backhoe. I looked for an older unit in excellent condition, but didn't find what I wanted. Bought a 2014 580 Super N. No alarm codes when I tried it out, no room to really try it out. Crowded used car dealer lot on the edge of a VERY busy highway. At home, codes started flashing & beeping. I eventually figured out it's the transmission electrical control. Don't use first gear, all is well. Also, the fuel gauge drops out a few seconds now & again.
God only knows the cause.
I'm an electrician, but the many mysterious black boxes are each a dead end in diagnosis.

And I can't drive as I should while trying to figure out how to stop the damned seat from barbecuing my ample a$$. Mrs B got a 2020 Grand Cherokee to replace the 2011 she had. It's the Laredo (basic) model, but it has more features than ANYONE needs. Good thing the owner's manual is online, it'd weigh 20 LBS if printed.

Why did a simple machine used for conveyance from here to there have to become a magic carpet that is more comfortable than sleeping in a bed?
There are far more distractions inside the vehicle than outside which means many if not most people are traveling in their own little world and risk ending up dead.
One has to wonder at times if we would be better off burning shoe leather and experiencing the world as it is and suffering the weather.
We have grown soft with our ability to get from there to here but I'm afraid we have given up something very dear.
The joy of driving is going away as we are getting so comfortable we can no longer be trusted to handle the chore. The robots are coming because they don't get bored.

My stupid GMC Sierra quite regularly has a message appear on the radio display.
Something about do not take yours eyes off the road to screw around with the radio.
BUT, you can only cancel the message by looking at the screen to touch it.
The message will not disappear until I cancel it.
Whoever designed that had their head in their a##.

I have a friend who collects old Toyota Corolla/Geo Prizm cars for his own use and also sells them to friends who need a good car cheap. They are simple, stupid, reliable cars.

I said it at the time and I say it now, in the late 1990s/very early 2000s with cars, that was the "good old days" and we knew it. Electronics had brought their advantages but it was still reliable. It has been downhill from there.

A side note. I think it is interesting when I ride with the window open, which is not very often. The sounds (loud road noise) and smells (exhaust, trees, etc.) bring me back to my younger days when we never had AC in cars and always rode with the window open.

Of course the DPF/DOC smells are different now, as is the jet fuel smell when somebody's DPF burner is not working correctly, better to run AC on recirc all the time now that we have these good clean burning vehicles.

I have to wonder what the so-called "Third World Countries" deal with for their cars and other things. Do the manufactures ship them vehicles with all the crap we get stuck with?

Point being that here in the USA, Europe and Down under we probably have at least a little chance of having a shop that can figure out some of the crap. But What happens in some of these other countries?

Even if you are lucky enough to be able to afford a new Toyota where do you find someone able to fix it. guess you just learn to live with the long delays of getting the little sensor that kills your machine or car.

I seen a Toyota 4 runner from Chile diesel motor odometer busted at 400 thousand and change and the botty was held together with wood and no doors and it was a daily driver and the last thing they were worried about was that it might break down

I'm becoming less and less a fan of the new fangled vehicle electronics but I will say that I love the heated and vented seats. It'd be nice if we could straight customize the different crap we wanted on a new car. My car has heated seats but I just bought a ventilated pad that plugs into the cigarette lighter hole. It works but not as well as factory ventilation. Also heated steering wheels are pretty sweet. I don't need or want the self driving garbage or the big screens and all that junk.
