Dam they are working on was built in 1913. It was upgraded in the '30's . First hydro dam in Missouri. Powersite Dam/ Ozark beach Dam. The powerhouse sits on the far side, up against a bluff. I've had my smallest truck crane up in there years ago when we changed a motor on the overhead crane. But the water has to be down and its a gravel track up tight against the bluff on the downstream side.

Here's a great collection of pictures of them building it.

New outdoor bathroom. Doors look awful narrow to me, don't know how they could be ADA compliant. Also, this just sets on a concrete base, no basement, so water and sewer lines are all exposed to the cold. Plumbers were not happy, but they didn't design it, they just bid hooking it up. They told me to just put it on the schedule for in the spring to pick it up so they could fix the water and sewer lines when they freeze and crack. Job security. I hope those plumbers made sure they went over their contract with a fine tooth comb to be sure they can not be held accountable for any damage that might be the result of freezing.

Probably has an electric heat sysytem. Will run day and night to keep the pipes from freezing. Lights on 24/7 also. I was driving downtown by the other night. Whole row of medical and college buildings both sides of the freeway all lit up interior and exterior 9:30 pm. Empty parking ramps fully lit. What a waste of electricity. Simple motion detectors folks that's all it takes. Lots of poor designs out there.

Nope, sparky was there wiring at the same time, and we actually talked about that. There's two cut outs for window a/c units, one on each restroom. BUT no heat. Unless the window units have a strip heater in them also. My only guess was that they shut the restrooms in the winter and blow out the system like a RV.

Was looking at a terex crane the other day. The geniuses at the factory installed a CEMAT transmission. According to the tag "DO NOT PUSH OR TOW VEHICLE".

So what in the blue blazes is someone supposed to do when you get stuck in mud, slide in snow or ice, or need pulled up a hill? Pray? Wait for better weather? Just go home?

Maybe they mean if machine is not running ? Many automatic transmissions have no fluid moving through them when engine not running. Many cars and trucks are not supposed to be towed on all four wheels when not running. Some models towed behind motor homes have a transfer case to put in neutral prevents transmission internals from rotating with no fluid flow.

Reminds me of a story that's funny now but not so funny then a friend of mine told me. He had one of those real nice bus Class A motorhomes he pulled a Honda pilot behind. Well he loaded up the RV with Pilot in tow and headed down I-65. He barely merged onto the HWY when they looked in the rear view mirror and the Pilot was nothing but smoke.

Yep smoked that transmission. He tried convincing his wife that it "jumped" out of neutral into park but she didn't by it.:D

I left a older Subaru wagon in first gear once, ONCE! I got distracted by the customer interrupting my hookup behind the boom truck, by wanting to pay me. Long story short, I got up to 65 mph, for about 10 miles, I don't know the math exactly but I think it'd be at least 10 K RPM on the old Soob? Whatever, it totaled it. $750.00, and I drove it for a couple years, and didn't put a dime in it, so no big deal, and a lesson learned.

No doubt lesson learned. When I am hooking up or unhooking any trailer I don't want any distractions.;)

Well, it seems the wife and I are now empty nesters. My son is now a junior at Missouri state in springfield, he's just a hour away. He had two years at community college and now is finishing. Youngest daughter also started at Missouri S and T in rolla- 2 1/2 hours away. Its quiet in the house.

Got some steel and trusses set on a big house overlooking the lake the other day. 3,000 lbs beam about 92' away. My 70 ton would have set it, but I never would have got my 70ton up in the driveway.

Setting a pool, the telebelt man was nice and left me the good spot. Those telebelts have a heck of a gear reduction on the swing motors, because he was a long ways from being level.

And yes, I will block the whole road to unstack trusses.

So my rt has been sitting in the shop for a while. We stripped the drive spline on the 2 section pump that's mounted to the engine, not the main hyd. pumps. This pump runs the brake boost and swing in one sector, and the steering on the other sector. New pump, spline drive in engine gear housing, and new bearing for it, should fix it all up.

First new pump we got was wrong. Second new pump was right pump, but needed to make some adaptors for fittings etc. Finally, new pump installed, have swing and brake (front sector), but no steering (rear sector). Steering has always been weak on this machine, so I'm thinking we have something else wrong. Have hyd. flow, but no pressure at the front steering cylinders. Good flow at swivel, and someone has been at the orbital, so I guess its decided to give up the ghost. No change after replacing orbital.

There's a flow restrictor valve, with a pressure relief, between pump and swivel. I have flow coming out of this valve, but no pressure. I disassemble and the pressure relief has a lot of wear at the seat, and a fine shaving in it. So I go looking for a new pressure relief. Its a griesen, which has been bought out by parker. Grove is 13 days out on the whole valve, 26 days out on the pressure relief. Can't come up with a good part number for the pressure relief. But the hyd. shop has a generic adjustable flow divider with pressure relief, and it's only $100, so I buy it and some fittings and install. Still no pressure.

Pull the line off the pump and put my gauge right in the line. I know I've got no relief now, and the pump will just deadhead, but I decide to just bump the starter and see if the gauge even jumps. I don't care anymore if it deadheads, I'm ticked. I get nothing out of the pump for pressure.

So we repull the new pump, which is a pain in the a$$ to get out, the motor mount bolts have to come out and slide the engine and trans to the side, and its a pain to get at the fittings.

The guys finally get it out, and disassemble it. Call me over, and the seal on the back sector of the pump is out of place. Its kind of all goofy in there, because that seal is actually right by the gears. How in the world do the gears not chew up the seal? Well it doesn't get chewed up by the gears, because there's supposed to be a swash plate on the gear side, holding the seal in the housing. The front side swash plate was there, but the rear one wasn't in the pump. Gears were turning giving me flow, but with no swash plate I sure wasn't going to get any pressure out of that pump!

New pump is ordered. This one has been a little frustrating. I just couldn't see how the problem could be in the new pump, because it was giving me flow. Usually if you have flow, the pump will build pressure. So I went chasing other things all over that stupid crane. Pump to flow restrictor, through swivel, to orbital upstairs, back downstairs through the swivel to the twin steering cylinders, I had gauges put in all over that stupid thing trying to figure out what was going on.

Its kind of nice to have it figured out.
