Greetings from Downunder. Going to look at a 4000 hr loader next week. Not sure if genuine, but the photos look seriously good. Owner says problem with the transmission. He has detected metal in the filter( bits of a bearing cage). I am fairly mechanically minded with plenty of tools. Will either firstly have a crack at fixing up old tranny or get an exchange one from somewhere in Aussie. Just after any hints on where to start on the old one. I have access to guages as well. Havent got my phone in front of me, but will post up photos next time. Because of covid, second hand equipment is expensive down here so it is worthwhile having a crack at it. Bear with me as this is my first post.
Cheers everyone.

Welcome to the Forum and one of the first things that should help get help would be the S/N of the 928F.

Just for fun I punched 928F in to SIS2.0 and did search on "Transmission: and found this selection: Standard Auto shift, Standard Manual shift, Low Speed Auto shift, Powershift.

And that was just for one of the S/N prefixes and there are two others. This is an example of why a full S/N is important. If you are not sure of the S/N post all numbers stamped into a tag on the machine or once you have posted enough to the forum you will be able to post pictures then post a picture of the tag(s) and someone will sort out the S/N.

S/N's might start with the following 7YM, 8AK, 2XL. But being an Aussie machine might be different as I'm using a US based SIS2.0 account.

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
Ask the seller if he has the material (or photos of it) and post them here. Also ask if he has removed and inspected the magnetic suction screen located in the bottom of the transfer case. Maybe that's what he meant when he said filter, because large particles usually end up there (too big to be sucked up to the pump).

I've seen transmissions in the past that failed a bearing cage that, provided they were attended quickly, had little or no contingent damage apart from the bearing. I wouldn't expect a transmission to be "stuffed" (as in worn out) at 4k hours.

I think you might balk at the price of an exchange transmission and if you have ability & tools you might well be better doing it yourself. Extracts from the service manual for the remove/install and disassembly/assembly will all be available provided you post a Serial Number.

Thanks for info. Went and had a look at it today. Everything else is pretty good. Engine starts easy,no smoke, hydraulics tidy. The machine moves and cycles through the gears ok. The owner changed the transmission fluid. Said there wasn't much muck in the sump. A mechanic took the plate off to access the suction filter. Bits of a bearing cage was present there. Unfortunately it was driven approx 25km to get back home, but has parked up since. Quite sure I am going to have a go at it. Pull cab off, then the transmission, then investigate. Have attached component sticker and picture of machine.

No luck uploading photos!!! Crappy reception in rural West Aussie. PIN is 7YM00155. Was told it was a Japanese import so number not recognised by Westrac, but from parts book they could get parts.

Back again. I spoke to the mechanic who looked at it. Said there was bits of a bearing cage and springs against the suction filter (clutch pack ?). Decided I will buy it and have a go at fixing it. As per sticker under seat, arrangement # is 1237777 and transmission # is 9YX00543 6Y8243. Thanks everyone. Will post again when I take delivery of it.
Cheers PeterP

There is a wave spring in each clutch pack.
Parts Manual for 7YM-prefix is in Japanese because that model was only ever built for the ISJ (Inside Japan) market and not for export. Use 2XL-prefix 928F for an English version of the parts manual. See attached.

Just had to take a look at that wave spring.

Never saw one like that! But the rest of the transmission looks kinda like the Clark transmissions I recall from the old Michigans! What with two clutch packs on the shafts and such.

I'd be tempted to offer to help but the commute from Syracuse NY might be a deal breaker!
