I own a Transverse lift model 8044, JD powered. It looses boom operation at times.... transmission works , steering works fine put sometimes you run it about thirty minutes and the boom quits responding....let it sit a bit and will work fine then will do again...I’ve ordered service manuals...only person I know that seems knowledgeable is Andy at ATS in Ohio (I think) and despite me buying all my parts through him he seems reluctant to help anymore... said if boom function quits and you can still steer.... you are loosing pilot pressure and good luck finding where... any hints appreciated 7045072453

Pettibone and Traverse merged years ago. You can get parts and some tech info by calling them at 9063534800. It does sound like you are losing pilot pressure. I would check for a pilot filter in the system.

I don't know personally about the 8044 but if it has the same pump as a mid inlet Lull there's a pressure reducing cartridge and a pilot pressure cartridge in the end of the pump. The whole end of the pump is called a charge valve and if it goes bad it will lose boom function and then come back and repeat. Does your pump have several small lines or just a big suction and a couple of big pressure lines? A picture may help.

I don't know if they have the same pump but I can tell you they are not related in the slightest. Lull sued Traverse Lift at one point for patent infringement but lost. ISZ

I understand that some engineers broke away from Lull and started Traverse, so I can only assume they "borrowed" some of the operating features of Lull, so that would explain the lawsuit. So they could have in fact utilized the same hydraulic pump as it's a supplied part and not manufactured by Lull itself, so a mid-inlet system is possible between two manufacturers. I know someone with an 8042 Traverse with a mid-inlet style pump so that's what had me questioning if the 8044 had one as well- that was my reason for asking. Now that Pettibone bought them they are sort of an orphan stepchild now.

I can’t seem to get good pics...but this thing has hydraulic lines everywhere.. pettibone direct was not very helpful. The manuals I have say 8044 but pics are not representative of what I see on machine.

But coming of trans there appears to be two pumps coupled together
System pressure I think should be 2400 ish, steering should be 2200 ish and pilot should be 350-500 manual tells you to do a certain function with controls while testing. Problem is my joysticks not responding so can’t do function

System seems have hardly any at idle rev it goes to 1600 ish. Steering low at idle also but steer it and goes to 1500 ish but hold it to stops one way and will see 2100 ish. Brakes I think operate off pilot test it’s around 500 push pedal in goes to 1100 which seems way high for pilot pressure. All these test done at test ports on frame behind seat

I am coming of pressure side both pumps with gauges and installing 1/4 turn ball valves leaving them open and going to close slowly but not completely and see if pump will in fact make the 2500 psi it’s supposed to make or if it will not I know not to close completely... put at this point with manual not accurate and no help at oem I got to start at square one see if pumps are putting out in desired range. After I see that I’ll go downstream.
I feel like something is damaged in system. Be it trash or debris holding something from seating properly or blocking something or pressure adjustments are off but who knows

I worked for Lull and never heard that but maybe it just wasn't brought up. From what I was told the lawsuit was over the transaction feature. The Lull patent specifically said that the rollers were all on the same plane so Traverse put them on two planes, problem solved. Guy that filed the patent made it too specific.

Those pumps in the picture are gear pumps so they will make the pressure unless they are totally shot, in which case you would have weak function even when cold. When you say the "boom quits responding" are you talking specifically about lift? What about lower, carriage tilt and transaction? Frame tilt? If it is all the functions it is might be a pilot pressure issue or air in the pump. If it is just lift you can focus on that specific circuit - lift spools in the joystick, relieve valve, counterbalance valve, etc. Depending on how the pilot actuation is configured in the main valve there could be a seal between the high pressure oil and the pilot line. (If this was the case you may see >500psi in the pilot line, but again depends on how it is made) If you know what brand/series of valve it is someone on here has probably worked on one.

Well, you know how it goes. "I heard" and "they said" are two of the biggest liars in the world. It may or may not be true about the parting of ways and the formation of Traverse. We'll still try to help get his machine fixed either way. The technical support has just not ever been there with Traverse.
