I've had a front rack on any rig I've owned since the '80's, in addition to a mid and rear. I always make the rear with a easily removable cross bar so you can still walk in the bed when needed, and the front rack is also quickly removable. This was handy when I was still a builder, and needed to haul long lengths of lumber on my little Toyota pickup, as it shifted the CG forward plus I didn't have an excessive overhang. Then when I started fabbing large solar arrays in my shop and delivering them the concept also came in handy, never lost one!
The big box (but real narrow) is my 1000 pound kitplane coming back from Kansas, 1000 miles, we had a big V on the front to cut some of the drag, got 24 MPG and saved a bunch of delivery money, back when I really needed to. Hit some major cross winds, and icy roads, but not at the same time I still see that Toy flatbed around town, i bought it brand new, it has well over 300 K of very hard miles on it now, and has been owned by a bunch of Hispanic roofers and concrete guys who always have it loaded to the max, I guess my welds on the rack and flatbed were OK as nothing has broken! I am a Toyota fan to this day because of that rig.
