HA!

More than once I've loaded something up, tied it down and said "That ain't going no where". Only to have worry appear later on in the voyage...

An old boss who has long since left this world used to say somebody in the transportation industry ought to write a book with that as the title and theme: "That ain't going nowhere!"

I've had a front rack on any rig I've owned since the '80's, in addition to a mid and rear. I always make the rear with a easily removable cross bar so you can still walk in the bed when needed, and the front rack is also quickly removable. This was handy when I was still a builder, and needed to haul long lengths of lumber on my little Toyota pickup, as it shifted the CG forward plus I didn't have an excessive overhang. Then when I started fabbing large solar arrays in my shop and delivering them the concept also came in handy, never lost one!

The big box (but real narrow) is my 1000 pound kitplane coming back from Kansas, 1000 miles, we had a big V on the front to cut some of the drag, got 24 MPG and saved a bunch of delivery money, back when I really needed to. Hit some major cross winds, and icy roads, but not at the same time I still see that Toy flatbed around town, i bought it brand new, it has well over 300 K of very hard miles on it now, and has been owned by a bunch of Hispanic roofers and concrete guys who always have it loaded to the max, I guess my welds on the rack and flatbed were OK as nothing has broken! I am a Toyota fan to this day because of that rig.img035.jpg

In my misspent youth I ran a crew cab with 8' utility box that had a ladder rack that went from front bumper to front of utility box. I also had a removable leg that mounted on the rear, just inside the tailgate for long pipe. We would haul 40' long 4-6-8-10" galvanized pipe on it. Some pipe out the front and some out the tailgate with a red flag. Anything goes with a red flag?:)

I can only guess there had some pucker factor whenever you passed a semi in that Toyota. Seems like that had to have waved back and forth a little in a good crosswind.

As I recall in the older days you had to have a red flag if the load was beyond the rear bumper. You were only allowed fifteen feet past the rear axle here in Washington.

I don't recall passing anybody...., big surprise, and this was way before 80 mph speed limits, it was actually OK once we got out of Kansas and the 25 mph direct cross winds, but they were steady, not gusty, so once you heeled over a bit it stabilized, and the roads were dry.

Whenever I cleaned out a rig to sell it I'd for sure find 3-400 red flags in the glove box, behind/under the seat, toolboxes. If it looks sketchy, put a red flag on it.
"License and registration please. Sir, have you been drinking today? Oh, never mind, I see you have a red flag. Have a nice day"

Well I didn't have a very good day yesterday. I woke up in the night and didn't feel well. Then I got up in the morning and didn't feel well at all. I had the wife drag me to the ER, and spent the morning there.

Wife knew I wasn't feeling well- #1 because I wanted a doc, #2 because I had her drive.

CT scan and the doc says 2 kidney stones. One on its way, one shacked up for later. He prescribed me some pain killers, and says the stones should work their way through. I felt better yesterday, and it bothered me a little today. Way better than all the things I was worrying it could be. Doc says they should pass through within a week.

Paperwork had a list of things I'm supposed to not eat, so it looks like I may just die of starvation.

I don't envy your next couple of days. The wife has had them three times. On the first set, she went to the rock crusher and got beat up pretty good. She wouldn't go back for two and three.

Good Luck!

Real sorry to hear you have kidney stones. Not fun at all. I had one a few years ago. You can't really move in a position to make the pain go away. Did they tell you to use a strainer so you can catch it? Should have drugs to enlarge the urethra and another drug to make it easier to pee in addition to pain killers. Mine passed after 3 or 4 days and it was a great relief. I wish my back would have got better after 3 or 4 days.

Damn that sucks but not near as bad as it could have been. I stopped going on WebMD when I felt something was wrong because in 15-20 mins I was sure the diagnosis was 3 months to live..

Feel you pain, gotta have my face chemically burned off April 2 due to pre-cancerous damage. Can't go outside or be in sunlight for 48 hours. Oh yeah my cholesterol is high and doc wants me to take meds..

Welcome to the old folks club it only goes down from here. o_O Hope the best on the "passage" - those pills may become like the gold they peddle on the radio.

Really sorry to hear that CM. And this is what it comes down to, the pain and suffering forum. Is there a special font you can use to convey you're in pain? Being in constant pain really sucks. :(:mad:

Oh ... the pain of a kidney stone. Young lady type in Dr's office kept going on about "How a man relates to child birth in women"
When asked if she had any children, the negative answer made me wish her first born would be 10 pounds ...

Went thru a round of them in the 80s
Voodoo of that period of time was a warm tub of water they set you in then used a ultrasonic rock crusher to break them smaller.
It took several weeks for the broken porcelain shards to finally pass and the bruising to go away.
Felt as had been beaten with a ball bat for same time.
I drink cranberry juice often have never given up on my regular eats have only had two instances figured had passed another SMALLER one as felt similar but not gone back to doc.

I thought I had kidney stones because of the pain, took myself to the hospital 2.5 weeks ago on a Sunday morning. Found out I had pneumonia both lungs, plus blood clots both lungs and right leg. Totally dehydrated mostly because I sweat so bad from the pain the night before. Now I get to eat rat bait for 6 months to be sure the blood clots are gone. Mine was caused by rotator cuff surgery a couple weeks before. The E R nurse said take deeper breathes, till she listened to my lungs, because there wasn't much left for making oxygen!

Kidney stones are bad but the pain I'm feeling in my back right now is worse. Feels like a truck drove over my back and then someone beat me with a bat 100 times. If I move the wrong I can't help screaming out in pain. Yes. I've had a kidney stone.

Have you seen the medical folks? I had that typed of pain a few years ago, when it hit I would almost go to the floor.
I woke up one night far a P call, could not get out of bed, sat on edge, rocking slowly to and fro, finally I could get up, back felt much better.
Went to recliner for the rest of the night.
Morning, I felt much better, by evening I could move around OK!
Mentioned it to a friend he said it was probably a bone spur, it had broken off, dislodged or something.
He had the very same problem years ago.
