On the way home from out of town today I got a phone call from my buddy who heard a excavator fell into the lake on long lake road.
Stoped in but didn't have my camera at the time but looked bad. Once Wayne was done work we went back and I had my camera

FYI, Contractor is R.M. Belanger Ltd. and the job was bid @ $ 899,430.00. Interesting to see what they make after the removal and repair of the machine then most importantly the clean up.

Notice the key was never turned off, lights still on.

I think that is a track imprint underneath the white bucket.
My guess is that he was digging silt out of the bottom near the edge when the ground gave way under the right track.

Now that's certainly a story...make sure to go back and get some of the removal, unless they did it already.

Well some info first.
Early this morning they trucked in 15 truckloads of blast rock for a better base.
Dropped off this AM was a 345D L from Toromont.
The crane is good for 250 tons. Cost for the crane is $600 an hour with a 8 hour min.
The force required to pull the machine up was 60 tons.
The guys who went into the water were from out of town, not sure on their cost.
Once they hooked up and started to lift it might have taken 4min at most to hoist it up then swing it over.

I was waiting around for a bit as they were going to swing the machine so everything lined up for the float. Unfortunatly it was taking too much time and before loading onto the float they were going to remove the bucket/stick assembly as they can't fold it for transport.

For all the pics, I've added em to http://community.webshots.com/album/564666641WtxgdP?start=0

I missed out on a recovery of one about 2 weeks ago. They had to call in another contractor with side booms to get it out. It was a 360 Volvo that went down in a swamp.Filled the engine with water and got the computers.

What a bummer. I thought maybe he got a hold of a big catfish and it pulled the hoe in?

It looks to me like he had been reversing , maybe did'nt realise how close he was and went off the deep end . A bent conrod or two i'd imagine .

That or he was dredging out material and was too close to the edge, started to swing the spoils around and the bank gave out and he went for a slide.
