Hey Ed I really appreciate this post, I just bought my first piece of heavy equipment, a 1972 72-41 Terex. I own a towing company and salvage yard so luckily I found this one with 12 foot forks on it so we can move vehicles around. I have been around rollbacks, race cars, street rods, and stuff like that my whole life but I'm not super familiar with big equipment. can you tell me what fluid you use in your transmission, I believe mine is an Allison 3630? thats one of my biggest issues right now if you could help me out I'd appreciate it.

Also do you have a good source for parts, info, or literature for these machines?

I use 15W40. The previous owner suggested it because it’s leaking. I’ve since found it is one of the recommended fluids, but I forget where I saw it.

I’ve bought parts from Terex, but they’ve since sold the loader division to Mecalac (888) 632-2522, I haven’t tried to buy anything from them yet. That’s for loader specific stuff, a lot of it is the same as articulated trucks and I get it from Terex. I’ve bought parts from Hulco too (816) 690-4577.

I got parts manual from Sycamore (812) 477-2266. Some manuals are on eBay too.

I would start with easy stuff first fuel flow from supply pump ,fuel filter ,when you take it off see if it’s full. Check air filter and tubes for blockages.

If it's been three years and it's been sitting without a full tank of fuel or the fuel cap leaks I would try draining off the bottom of the tank IF it has a drain valve and I would just change the fuel filters to rule it out.
