Ive been running a 22 Ton Grove Rt for one of my customers. I normally would nt run someone else cranes but they give me a lot of good work ,so i help them out.The machine came to the current owners from a rental co. and was well maintained ,but still a rental. Going through the fine print in the inspection documents the other day ,i find the inspection letter has a qualifying clause in it. Certification valid subject to slewing ring bolts being torqued to manufacturers specs. No mention of any checking for wear on the actual bearing.I know these bolts are fcking important, but to direct the owners to just grab a torque wrench and pull on them dosent make sense ,if you did find a loose one its probably stretched and if you moved the others at all your most likely stretching them to. Not to mention ,its no simple job to access all these bolts . If it were mine and i was asked to retorque the bolts id lean toward just replacing replace the bolts after the tolerances on the bearing it self were checked and verified good . Am i being too fussy?

I worked for a company that wanted us to retorque the turntable bolts. I checked one and left the rest alone.

I imagine it is a Cover Y A kind of thing for the inspection company. If it comes off- "we told you to check them" , kind of thing.

I wouldn't touch them, and I've been in some cranes that were really loose, that were still within spec. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Crane Operator your a lot more familiar with that 22 ton grove than i am.Id agree with that . Theres no evidence of loose bolts, like paint cracks ect. I think being ordered to retorque them might cause more harm than good. Does yours creep on the rear wheel steering when your roading it ?

No creep on rear steer, but I've got a issue with it right now where the rear oscillation isn't working.

Is that in regard to the rear axle lock on yours?
This one i have been on tends to crab steer its self as you go down the road.

Yes, it won't unlock the rear cylinder to allow the axle to pivot. I'm guessing my problem is the rotation sensor or the unlock solenoid. If it wants to walk sideways while roading, I bet the steer cylinder needs repacked, it pushes it sideways while you are driving.
