Good old Bouma, the 4070 cabs liked to crack out around the rear cab support/mount.
Creepy so few people know so many truck dealerships yet it's so great. If I get around to checking it out on person I will put that on my list to look for, thanks!

I've been back there to check out a few trucks myself. They do have a decent reputation. See a lot of grain trucks out here with their stickers and mudflaps on them.

So basically it's like going to a used car lot, wonder if they bought these trucks off of auction block too. Just roll it across bid not knowing anything of the history and sell it quick as possible with higher than bought for and higher than it's real worth. Seems like a hit or miss, better bring my tools, poor car is going to be loaded down with tools IF I go look at it.

It's been 20 years or so, but I got the impression back then most of their stuff was from Montana or North Dakota from large wheat farms that were just upgrading their stuff. Look at the one you brought up... 350 ish thousand miles on an 81? That's pretty low compared to what I see locally.
A guy I knew here bought a big Pete from them and had good luck with it. And I see quite a few really nice sets of grain trailers from them.
But go with your gut feelings when you look at stuff.

Yeah that is true, I resurrected this one from the dead. Worn out u joint in the steering, new belts, new hoses, blown transmission replaced, shocks/springs worn out replaced, dead gear splitter, new clutch, bench seat to air seats, more gauges, rebuilt front end and list goes on. Well bear with me as I keep looking while I see how this one plays out. Emailed and asked for more interior pictures and info on the rears on ratio.

4070s, Steel Doors, heavy as a Iron block but solid old trucks. Sleepers on them and the F series Macks were not snug but TIGHT for anyone over 5'8". Dependable for the most part, most tandems were Dayton Four Spring, a few Hendrickson and neither rode any better than the other. Could almost drink coffee in one while sitting, not much if rolling!!

Hated pulling radiators, only half tilt cab lift, came out thru front and the Enganear did not think much of clearances when designed.

Sounds like I am SOL then on the sleeper, at 6' might have to sleep diagonal. Not many selling rigs in Montana at my price range and not really looking forward to driving 1k miles to grab one. I emailed them waiting on response still as I keep looking in Wyoming, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Try to stick with Newer than '95, maybe even 2000, as already 20+ years old to those. Cab and Frame corrosion, engine parts obsoleting, trams and diff parts obsoleting, you ran into brake parts obsolescence on yours, Minn. Mags are fast becoming obsolete as are some versions of the old Budds and the hardware for them. IH Corporate drive Axles are pretty well an item of NLA, are a number of issues once pass 20 years and where technology has swapped to newer or Bigger Better Badder!!

Find a old Tandem, cut it down move rear to single drive rehab drive line to accommodate then align for sleeper or living quarters style sleeper and install a home spun bed box for tooling.

UT, WA, CA all not far and major metro regions where big machines do not move fast and prices align accordingly. CA pushing old trucks out past the borders, have to disappear or be scrapped as cannot drive them much by license regs.

I seen quite a few from California, and contemplated a few. Trying to stay away from computer controlled ones is why I was looking back so far before 95. Though I understand the oversight of the other ones as when something breaks it's either fabricate something or find a newer model and get a part off of it. Figured with so many of these the parts would be around longer, but guess like cars they are disposable. Definitely will cut a tandem down if I have to, no hesitation there ;)

Pick your poison these days on most of these. I was still active in HD trucks as Volvo merged to White/GMC, this I believe is still the White Motor cab configuration. Not been around Marshall to know how well this dealer is. Other than absolutely filthy the truck does not look too rough edged.

That's good, it does look really roomy and I could cut cabinets down to make room for bigger mattress. First order of business would be clean, then go through take inventory of what needs fixed then a paint job, yellow eww.

As @Truck Shop has pointed out in other threads, the volvos were known for electronics failure in the dash. This required a new circuit board which is not cheap and getting to be few available in junk yards anymore. My grandpa has a Volvo of the same vintage with a 3406B Cat. Pulls great, nice visibility from drivers sear, but just like Truck Shop said it eventually would, the dash went out last fall. No Speedo, no tach. Only air gauge and lights work.

That's not a big deal to me, I'm use to that problem as I have been down that road in different form fashion, tick me off I will pull all the gauges put a plate over everything and fashion mine own instrument cluster. Been there fixed that ;)

Spud... You do realize that N-14 is electronic, don't you?
Yep though everyone keeps saying I need to keep away from the older rigs, so it's a fuk which way do I turn:confused: guess I better invest in some software/hardware to read it.
Older rigs hard to find parts and cramped spaces or somewhat newer electronic crap that don't have too many sensors but enough to cause grey hairs.
