But what are the alloy wheels going to look like when the truck itself is dirty, hmmmm..?So we needed to take advantage of bonus depreciation (thanks to a ROBUST economy) and our highest milage crew truck was a 2014 6.2 gasser had 200K on the odometer so it was time to replace it.
Getting away from the iconic "white" work truck and moving towards silver as it's different and looks cleaner when it's dirty.

Well we here in Alabama received 14+ inches of rain in Feb - just 9" more than average so it's been a little slow on the dirt moving front.
Picked up 3 more quadcom boxes off Iron Planet in Columbus, GA from FT Benning. These 4x8 mini conex boxes make a great job site box.
So we've re-configured the first one from back up thread and painted the rest. Also built a few racks for SS attachments. With a small yard space is a premium.
This is the original box. Built some shelves to get stuff off the floor and more organized. A piece of #4 rebar in the back is for hanging rigging chains and slings.
There is room for a gas powered air compressor and generator. Air hose reel mounted underneath a shelf.
Grease reel mounted to the ceiling. We have an 80LB keg with a Mini-Fireball pump
These are a work in progress but it's very nice to have air, grease, fluids and tool storage on the job. These small boxes are easily moved either on the lowboy with another piece of iron or behind a pickup.
We've up fitted another one for crew #2 and they organized it a little different, I'll get picks of that one when I can. The other 2 boxes are just being used for storage at the moment.

Started a new project last week - partial demo and site work for a new dining hall and kitchen for our local 4H Center. The demo is a little messy but that's how it goes with a wood frame structure. The crew drug the stainless sinks and such out of the old kitchen to scrap.
This partial demo involved some selective interior demo which we rarely do. Prior to demo the crew removed the interior walls 4' out from this gable end, saw cut the roof and cut the exterior walls. We did not want to put any stress or tension on the part of the building to be saved. The GC's crews put up the OSB on the open gable end and the red tape over the openings in an effort to keep some of the rain out.
We saw cut and hammered out a strip in the slab since we didn't know if the slabs were doweled or not. Turns out there was a metal construction joint with dowels placed every 12' or so but nothing that caused an issue.
This project is located out in the country on a lake I grew up on. Blue sky, open air and nobody to really mess with - the reason why we're able to work while the CV19 crisis is going on.
Another project for the biggest GC we work for.

This weeks progress -
Building demo completed and slab removed.
Site demo involved removing some asphalt and a concrete dumpster pad. The L9000 earning her keep hauling concrete. They have an area onsite to dump concrete, cured asphalt and dirt that's an 8 minute turn around once loaded.
Cutting the existing bank in order to get some good material to fill in the holes left from footings and underground utilities we removed. The entire little hill will be removed for the future parking lot. This site has approx. 3K CY's of export going to their onsite dump.
The roller is on the old building pad soon to be new building pad for the addition. The building will be expanded back to where the 321 is loading the L9000 and then head right in the pic. Total SF of the addition is 12K.

Nice looking job, how's that pretty ford dump working out?
I kinda shook my head at your preference for a allison, but I now have two different cranes that are automatics. I'm really liking both of them. I still like the stone stupid reliabilty of a manual eaton, but that allison is sure nice at a uphill stoplight.....

I'm a big fan of Allison transmissions for what we do - move dirt. We're not running across country or pulling 180K gross - not our market segment. The L9000 is underpowered with an L10 and under geared at 4sp's for a profitable highway truck but it's one hell of an onsite truck.
I can put an operator that's not a truck driver but has equipment sense in it and make money.
Had an '07 Mack Granite tri-axle with MP7 and Allison 6sp - now that truck was a hoss.

That's the same reason my grandpa has 3 forage trucks and 1 dump truck on the farm with Allisons's in them now. Anyone can drive them and be successful. We have guys that can't drive a 15 speed to save their life, but anyone can drive a forage truck with an allison in it and keep up just fine. We don't always have the same people available to drive when it's time to haul forage, but we have a fairly decent pool of people we can call on and can always find someone to drive the trucks with the allison's in them.

A little update on the lake project.
There was an area in the gravel parking lot that had some unsuitable soils the dirt doc had us cut out, haul to the on-site dump and replace with suitable.
Laser grading the building pad before a spring rain came.
The L9000 hauling a few loads this afternoon. Our 321DL with 7300 hours still runs like a top.

We landed the biggest project in our company's history last week with the same GC. Starting it Monday. It is a very high profile project full of challenges. It's going to be interesting to say the least.

Weird, I saw a video of a guy laser grading with a Terex track skid steer, and from the looks of your video, you’re going way, way too slow and not trying to push nearly enough material in front of the machine…

Started the big job today.
Rented a brand new 330GC from the Cat house in addition to our 325FL.
First order of business was tree clearing.
Processing one of the large magnolias on site within the strikingly mediocre view of downtown.

No not that big.
Actually a 330 is too big for the majority of our jobs, the 325 reduced swing machines work better for us. We'll have the 330 for 1-2 months during the demo and rough grading/haul out phase and send it back.
This 330 just happened to have 24 hours on the clock when it came out. The Cat next gen excavators are very nice and this one is a base GC model.

We are a lot smaller scale company than you are however we’re slowly switching over to more site development and municipal type work. We’re doing a lot of work for a chain of gas stations in our area and I’ve turned bids in on multiple local proposed Dollar Generals with the GCs saying I’m throwing good numbers. A guy can really learn a lot by reading through your thread.
