When my rebuilt engine was using oil the shop said to put 500 hours on it. I did that but it was still using a lot of oil so out it came.

If you pull the dipstick or oil filler cap with it running is there visible smoke ? Was always a quick way to determine the state of the rings etc.

In the old days the breather tube told the tale but nowadays all that gets recirculated.

At that rate your well over what Cat considers a problem . They use a 250 to 1 ratio of fuel to oil as a reportable failure.
They will want a record of fuel used to oil added for warranty. Your dealer should help you get the papers to fill out.
On a C7 heui I think there is a chance the high pressure oil can cross over to the fuel side of the injector past the seals so you may want to look at your fuel tank and see if it’s getting black at the end of the day.

Hell, that engine should be under warranty. Be careful what you screw with so they don't void your warranty...….it happens! I would be ringing CATS phone off the hook...….while not touching that engine.

There is 1 year warranty on the engine, not sure what our mobiles plan is but we will watch very closely on the oil and fuel usage for now on, with the history and problems with this machine we are making sure we get everything documented.

There is a lot of visible smoke coming out of the oil filler tube, I checked today with the engine running.

My partner was out on the other shift on Saturday he burnt 300L of fuel and around 1 L of oil according to the dipstick this morning, but the motor seems to take spells where it will use 3-4 L of oil with that same amount of fuel burnt, I am out tomorrow morning for a full shift with the machine, it will be hard pushing, will see how it makes out.

Might as well drive it to your CAT dealer and leave it there.;)

Cat won’t do the repair without the documentation of oil and fuel use. Unless of course you have a cat rep that is creative with the paperwork.

Pushed the engine hard today, will see if it is down on oil in the morning, also noticed the engine is running hotter than normal, all fluids are up where there suppose to be, right on the start of the red on the gauge most of the afternoon, outdoor temp was -6c or 26F, The old motor never ran that hot being pushed hard in the winter, and yes the rad is clean.

Fan speed good?

Any chance the fan may have been removed during the engine swap and installed backwards?

Any large gaps between the fan shroud and coolers? Any large gaps between the coolers in the package?

Fan speed is good, when they replaced the engine they checked the fan speed it was on the low side, so now it is running where it should be.
