Foam Filled Tires

I've been serious researching poly filling my tires for my farm tractor and front backhoe tires. Not a lot of info out there but seems it would work for me with constant tire patching during demolition.

I don't see the downside of getting mine filled. Any thought on them?

You'll lose some traction ability in bad soil conditions compared to air filled.

What you also have to factor in is the cost of removing a foam-filled tyre from the rim when you eventually have to replace them. They have to be cut off and I would imagine there are only a limited number of places capable of doing the job. either way it will be an additional cost.

Have you considered cushion tyres..?

If you don't have back problems now...…..you will shortly after foam filling those tires. You better make sure you have a quality, spring/air seat in that cab. If you don't you better wear a hardhat while operating.

Heavy, expensive, and rides like a rock as mentioned. Don't do it. Just dump a big bucket of flat preventer slop in each tire before airing them up.

No experience with the foam filled tires but at the quarry they decided to put a set of AirBoss tires on a Case 1845C, looked just like these:

They did eliminate the flats but..... did a number on drive chains and axle bearings. Like people say about the foam filled the ride was very harsh to say the least. And then if you did damage a segment it sucked because you could not just bolt in a new one or it was like driving over a curb non-stop all day. Fortunately we did save the old rims and eventually put "normal" tires back on. And yes traction sucked with the airboss tires compared to pneumatic tires.

Only reason I could see using the foam or Airboss tires would be if you were forced to run under conditions like a scrap metal yard or such.

Try tire ject from what i seen it works good and isnt messy like other flat preventers.

I hate foam filled tires. We must've had a bad run of them because they were ALWAYS flat spotting if parked too long. Its fun ripping down the road in 4th gear in the tele with flat spotted tires.

Interesting as it says the load is carried from the top of the Twheel! I'm just wondering about those open spokes if the machine is run in mud or such and then not cleaned.

Well I've got different advice for what it's worth.

On the third set of front tires on the '03 420DIT and 2 of those sets were foam filled. The set that's on it now were put on a year or so ago. Just my $.20 but they work great. No front flats, ride is still a backhoe without ride control and wear seams normal.

The machine was used around residential construction sites for it's first 6 years of life and the OEM set of tires were constantly picking up nails and getting flats. Foam filled the first replacement set and had good luck with it.

Now the rear tires were replaced a few months ago and those are normal air filled tires with some snot in them.

It has been reported on some of the lawn forums that the Tweels are terrible in mud. Many lawn companies have been buying mowers with these things. Again, the word is they are worthless in muddy conditions.

Thanks for the tip on TireJect. Never heard of it but the stuff looks like it would be handy to keep on hand. I may get a couple containers for my car too. Perfect for a trip for extra peace of mind.

Its pricey bit really seems to work , onelonlyfarmer on you tube has a vid from awhile ago , mounted a brand new tire for stackwagon i think it was and they shot it over and over again with buckshot.

Thanks for all the feedback. Ordered new air filled tires after getting a foam quote of 3 times the cost of new. I will look at the tireject for other equipment I have the same problem with.
