Makes me feel really mistreated in as much as we Long Ago worked out of 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups with road chests. I would have given a nut for one of these back then.

They put the same garbage all over our roads here in Maine. That was the biggest reason I flew to southern Virginia to buy this one. The frame and chassis on this 2006 truck look better than some 2015 trucks from around here.

My new build truck is a mix and match...
Just bought an 07 Freightliner with STI body and tiger crane coming from Minnesota. Will be picking it up in the coming month. I need to shorten the body by one cabinet then will be mounting it on my 01 extended cab 4x4 cab and chassis.
Hoping to have it on the grade by winter.
Pics and build to follow.
Once done my trusty F550 will be looking for another home.

So here is what I have...
Finally got the truck imported and bedded to me.
In short plan words, I plan to pull the body and remove welding deck and front cabinet (which is an add on) from the 07 M2
Then tidy it up and mount it on the FL80 4x4 cab and chassis.
Progress and pics to follow.

Interesting build simons. What are the specs on the FL 80?

I'm happy I live down south - no road salt. I have an '01 F250 7.3 that I bought new and the frame still looks like it did when it was new.

We might get an inch or so of snow a year which is great as we just take a snow day and enjoy adult beverages. No need to spend millions on equipment - just take the day off, it'll be melted tomorrow. :D

That's a loooong truck. Looks overweight just sitting there empty. Cool rig, space will definitely not be a problem:)

First day of summer yesterday... 12-18 inches of snow at the mines I work at!!!

The FL80 has 16k front, 23k rear. Full time 4wd with lockable transfer case. Currently 3126 cat with 9speed transmission.
The higher stance of the frame and running gear gives close to unbeatable clearance.
Gearing is low (100km h at 2500rpm) not building a highway princess.
Once I've finished the body will be a standard 14ft unit so won't be near to as long as the M2.
The 50 inch cabinets will work nicely for the frame height as 60inch would be too tall to be useable.

Guys I need some ideas. I currently have a f450 with a Venturo crane body. I have my welder on the back driver corner and the leads wound up in the cabinet under the crane rest with my torch bottles. I’m buying a f750 with a dominaiator 2 body. They have the leads wrappeded up around the bottles on the outside. The kicker is they have put a nice tool box with locking drawers where the torch bottles normally go. I already have a plan for the bottles but not the leads. I like them in a cabinet away from the sun and theives. I could you a few Ideas if possible.

This is the set up now. In the pic with the motor you can see the leads and tanks

I think you're going to be sorely disappointed. I believe you've got more cubic inches in your current rig. I went from a 550 w/ 14 ft bed to a 750 w/ 14ft bed. I swear, I lost space.
How about bulkhead fittings through your RF cabinet so you can have your hoses in the cabinet. Then you'd only have 3 or 4 feet exposed with the tanks. Perhaps, the same for your welding leads. Get a pair of insulated pass through lugs. That'll protect your leads or just put the twist lugs (tweco) on your binding posts. Then you can wrap em up and stow them after each job.

What about moving the welder to the drivers side rear then the cables etc can live in that cabinet?
Congrats on the new unit.

That is the plan so I can drop the crane height. I just hate to take up one of the only open storage box’s but it looks like I’m running out of options

That’s a lot of weight on the ditch side. I’d move the welder to the left rear and possibly move that toolbox somewhere else so you can have your torch box back. I’m running a similar setup and it’s filling up fast.

I’ve consider pulling the tool box out and putting it in the f450 if it will fit. Really getting tired of drawers flying out at me when I open the doors lol. I really wanted to put a lead well somewhere with a expanded metal bottom for the dirt to fall through when they are pulled the mud. I’ve got some good ideas from my pipeliner buddy’s but we have two different style beds
