Went out with the lil loader, this AM, in the box trailer, to push some dirt at my brother's place, a mile down the road. As I turned right onto the state road, I see the drivers side front wheel, on the box trailer snap off! Turned around about a tenth of a mile, limped back home, unloaded the loader, disconnected the trailer, took the loader, drug the flatbed outta the woods, aired up the tires, noticed dry rot and a serious flat spot, on 1 tire. AND, rear leaf spring busted! Pushed my dirt, unloaded, worked on another project fer a coupla hours, then after lunch, started in on the tire and spring. 1st thing, a frozen then quickly stripped lug nut, OK, no BFD, I'll re-thread, and steal a nut from the other(useless) trailer. both wheels off, plenty of room from the side picked up back with loader, installed jack stand. Only gotta get them 2 rusted spring bolts out, to save time, went ugly, early, ground the heads offa both of 'em, with the 18V grinder. 1 end of spring is free now, had the grinder handy, so cut the U bolts off, too! Last bolt now headless, wouldn't have the decency to spin, so I tried punchin, then drillin through with a unibit. Figgered that would take more time than there is, so I got out the sawzall, and rounded up a blade, from a box lot, from an auction. Sawzalled for about 10 minutes, and I was through the outside end of the spring pin. as I pulled the blade out, the spring rotated down and I trued the punch, again, and SUCCESS! all parts layin on the fender, awaiting tomorrow's trek to the trailer place, where they'll prolly tell me we can have it fer ya in a week!

And now fer what I been waitin fer, all day, A SHOWER!

Well, an update, of sorts... Got the spring, and hardware for the flat bed. Brick and mortar trailer store, In Annapolis, bill was around $80. Got the reg renewed, at the Maryland department of aggravation, that cost $ 160(2 yr). Hadda use the kiosk computer thingie, and ask for some help... Damn computers. Mosta the people there were there to get their ID's updated, a new law, new hassle, haveta present birth cert, ss card, and 2 bills. I will have to go through this, as soon as I find 2 guys named bill, I guess!;)

Anybody want to know what the axle for the box trailer is gonna cost?o_O

Funny thing is I didn't see no messicans or salvadorans, or guatamoleons, in the ID line, I guess they all gets a DL, voter card, welfare card, as soon as they hop, skip or jump the border...:D

Well today's update...

Sorta update, Gots the 4 lawns I needed to mow, usin the lil trailer, and the ranger pullin it. Actually took less time, cause the lil truck is faster than the big one. Stopped in the new High's store, fer lunch, 3 potato wedges an a chicken tender, fer $2. Not great food, but not bad, fer the price! Oh, and the latest in local news, they finally gots the 250 feet of road milled down, fer re-pavin, that has been fugked up bumpy, fer the last 6 months. Now instead of upward bumps, they is downward bumps! Too late fer my trailer axle, but might reduce wear and tear on the new one, if they get it re-paved, sometime this year!;)

I assume you froze up a wheel bearing on the little trailer and it snapped the axle end off. On most you can just cut the welded on axle end and then weld on a new axle one. Our local Northern Tool store has the axle end complete with bearings, seal, hub and wheel nuts for about $50.00.

No, the lil trailer is doin just fine, it was the big box trailer that snapped the axle. No freezing or dried up bearings, either, the axle snapped 'cause its 25 years old, and it broke, at the grease hole, that goes through the axle...;)

That's where we break most of our pins on machines.... right at the grease hole... so basically a feature added to make things last longer makes them fail sooner

A johndeere 310 backhoe dont like slick ramps either, especially with the brakes not tied together! unloading one @ the jobsite one frosty morning and damn near turned it over! quick thinking was the only thing that saved me, I cramed the front end loader down as fast as i could and it was enough to stabilize it. about crapped my pants but was able to get it offloaded without damage to it or the trailer.
