Hello All,

First time poster here. I have an older Cat 320L that is a grey market machine. The engine recently started tapping/knocking. I have decided to pull the engine and do a rebuild on it. That being said I'm having some issues verifying what engine I have. I believe it's a 3066 but I don't find much on the 7JK series but I find quite a bit on the S6KT I have a feeling they may be the same engine but looking to confirm.

Engine Serial: 7JK01597
Engine DLR Code: 7y-1572
Machine Serial: 8HJ00402

Any other information that anyone has on this machine would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry i looked through my paper manuals...nothing on a 7jk
Yeah it's strange I know it's a grey market machine but I figured I would be able to find something. There are quite a few websites including eBay that have rebuild kits and other parts for the 7JK and they all seem to reference a S6KT as well. I'm just not 100% sure they are the same engine. Thanks for looking though.

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
Your Japan-built excavator S/N-prefix 8HJ is similar to a non-Japanese machine of 1KL S/N-prefix.
If you want to look for non-Japanese manuals, here are the publication reference numbers (Japanese manuals in parentheses)
Operation & Maintenance Manual - SEBU6537
Parts Manual - XEBP7170 (XJBP7158)
Service Manual - SENR5465

If you want O&M and Parts Manuals the first stop should be Cat Publications. You can get the pair for less than $150 (O&M - $46, Parts $89). Just type the document reference in the Search box and hit "GO". There are Adobe pdf documents available for immediate download using a credit card.

Thanks for the help. I see that these all say "8HJ1-Up,7JK56-Up" since my machine is below both of these numbers do you for see me having any major issues. Currently my biggest concern is getting the right specs and parts for the engine. I just can't seem to find anything that says what changed at the 8HJ1/7JK56 mark.

In Cat-speak, "8HJ1-Up" translates as 8HJ00001-Up. They're just to lazy to put all the zeros in it.
So your machine with S/N 8HJ00402 is covered in the manuals I mentioned in Post #4 above.

If you are on the Cat Publications website hover your cursor over the illustration and "click to preview".
At least regarding the engine S/N the cover page makes slightly more sense.............

A 7JK 3066 motor is one of the most common used in the 320 ,C,L, series machines so a service manual on any of them with a 3066 motor will work.
Cat service manuals SENR5553-10 D&A and SENR5546-15 testing, SENR5545-18 specs are available from Cat .
These motors are not the easiest to rebuild ,if you are using it to make a living I would suggest a Cat reman.
Good luck
Bob
