I have a Wacker RD11A that suddenly stopped vibrating yesterday, I got it used and really don't know how many hours are on it. I was rolling 3/4 road base with it, it made no weird noises, just stopped and sounded like the hydraulics for the vibratory motor were going into relief. The machine still drives fine. I have a bad feeling the the exciter that the vibratory motor drives that vibrates the drum has seized or the bearings have gone out. Am I on the right track? Any help would be appreciated

If you lost electrical power from joystick button or relay come loose it will stop . I will look at the manual in a bit . What is your email address so I can send you the manuals to have for future referance.

Thanks for chiming in tool_king, it still has electrical power to the switch and actually engages the hydraulics but it "sounds" like the hydraulics for the exciter motor go into relief. I was looking at the repair manual online and it "looks" like there may be a chance the coupler form the exciter motor to the exciter may have the potential to strip out, or the bearings seized on the exciter itself. It made no funny noises when it stopped working. The steering and the drive still work fine and I believe the steering works off the exciter motors hydraulics....ill pm you my email address anyway, since you are the master of all manuals it seems.....;)

Since nobody must ever work on Wacker RD11’s I hope this helps someone down the road. I Removed the exciter motor and found that the coupling that connects the exciter motor to the exciter was in many pieces, the exciter still turns freely as does the hydraulic motor, so I guess it just wore out since it’s only plastic. The funny thing is, the repair manual that tool king sent me makes no mention of the coupling at all, it just says if machine doesn’t vibrate, remove exciter motor, if exciter motor does not turn freely, replace, if exciter doesn’t turn freely, replace parts as needed....I did find and look in the machine over though that the hydraulic tank seems to smell like gasoline, which means, I’m sure somebody that “borrowed” the machine at some point must’ve dumped gas in the hydraulic tank instead of the gas tank on the side of the machine, so I bought a new hydraulic filter and will change that and the fluid while it’s in the garage. The manual calls for 10W30 AW hydraulic oil, I am having trouble locating that, anyone know if AW46 would work OK? I attached a pic of what’s left of the coupling...

Gasoline in the hydraulic tank... That's a new one.

Got a 544GTC wheel loader with a ground level fuel filler, and a climb up behind the cab, with padlock, hydraulic tank filler. Coworker climbed up and "fueled" the hydraulic tank to full. Figure about 15 gallon. Even with a drain and refill of the hydraulics, I still had to reseal all the cylinders (but, they were 12 yr old, 16k hour cylinder seals.) Never touched the pumps for any reason, even now at 23k hours.
Another coworker "fueled" the muffler on an 1845C. Let's just say that we didn't have mosquitos for a month.
Favorite...Lowboy driver, 150 miles from home, running on fumes in his two 100+ gallon tanks, pulled in to a station, put 90 gallon in the driver's tank, went down the road, turned around and came back and put 80 gallon in the other tank (of 87 octane). Made it to station exit.

Ouch! That last one sounds expensive. Yeah, there's a fuel door on the side of this machine so it would make perfect sense to open the hood, remove the chrome hydraulic tank cap, and proceed to put gas in. I wish I had been there when it didn't start. I'll cut the filter open when I change it, I'm sure the life has been shortened on the hydraulic components but she rolls pretty good stil and there's no noticeable whine from the pumps...anyone know if AW46 would be ok. I imagine it would being that it's running on AWpumpgas/hydro oil....:D

As for the hydraulic oil they are running 10w30 motor as hydraulic oil in them to let you know .I did not even think it would have split the coupling apart .I have not had that failure yet on one .

Thanks! I think it supposed to rain tomorrow so hopefully I’ll get it back together. They sent a new coupling with 2 new metal drive wheels for the hydraulic motor and for the exciter so I imagine I should change them as well. I believe this unit was owned by United rentals, so who knows what has been done to it before I got it....all the bearings seem tight on the exciter and it spins freely. Thanks for the heads up on the 10/30. Rally appreciate that

Hello.
I am having the same problem. My vibratory is working. I replaced the plastic couple connecting the excited pump and wheel drum. (which was stripped.) then when I put it back together, if sounds like it wants to vibrate but doesn’t seem like it’s engaging fully. Was wondering if any of you guys ever got to the bottom of the problems you guys where having.
Thank you

hello I am having the same problem you had. I replaced the plastic couple. But now it seems like doesn’t fully engage to vibrate. It shakes very little, but not how it should be. Was wondering if you ever got to the bottom of your problem. Which hopefully will be the answer to my problem. Thank you

Welcome to HEF Blacktop;)! Instead of jumping on an old thread you really should have started a new thread. The responses might be faster. Also post your particular model and serial number. That will help Wacker guys out.

Hi RD11A Serial#5622169 vibrator stopped working hydro squeals when I hit button to turn on and vibrator does not work pulled motor off unit in drum spins freely coupler is perfect so my question is it in the hydro motor or a pressure bypass? I can grab drive gear turn it on gear wont spin hydro squeals but let go of gear and it spins and squeal goes away so bad motor/ any thoughts are appreciated
