Well I think I’ve decided on a name for the pup. Certainly not the way I wanted to.
Last night I lost a very close friend, mentor and father figure. I went to work for Kevin my jr year of high school. I worked 3-4 years straight for him. On and off after that. We always stayed in touch, I watched his boys grow up as I worked for him and he watched my kids grow later on. I learned a lot from him. The good stuff, how to treat people, when to fight, when to back down and when to know there’s $hit that happens in life you can’t do a damn thing about.
He fought a hard battle against pancreatic cancer. Almost two years. Never once did he complain. He just did what he always did. Worked. Smiled. Enjoyed the equestrian facility he built from scratch in 1971 at the ripe old age of 18.
So now the vote is simple. Kevin it is. Perhaps Kev for short, that’s what his dad called him. The stories I could tell about what I saw with my own eyes and heard over the years. Very few knew his middle name was Jeffrey. The riders would always ask and he’d say it was J-Fred.

P.S. I don’t mean to get deep but beyond a few friends I converse with I don’t have any other real place to vent so thanks in advance for lending me your eyes.

Heelers are a weird dog, Usually a one man dog. My last Red would tolerate the kids but hated my ex wife... Well... Anyway Ellie was the last of a long line of heelers that my grandfather had for his cow/calf operation just before he passed. Had her for 18 years every day at work 'til one morning she didn't get up to go to work. Took that day off.
I now have a Coonhound rescue dog that found me. He's a funny dude. Really smart and does some crazy stuff. He loves to put the ball through the fence so he can go out and run to bring it back.

Sorry to hear it Junkyard. I have had a couple really good older mentors and friends pass over the last few years and its never easy. One of the was a very good and creative machinist. I used to work in there engine shop and live in his basement during the winter for weeks at a time. Was a great experience and I learned a crapload of stuff.
My wife says I have a very strange collection of friends. Ages from 80-20, I am 49. I have always told her I like hanging around people I can learn something from, sometimes its older with experience, sometimes a younger view of things will inspire a new idea. Lately I have found myself mentoring a couple younger guys with machining and welding. So I guess I have come full circle. learning and teaching.

You’re welcome. While we aren’t physically neighbors on here we seem to be a bunch of like minded people. I relate to a lot of what I read so it stands to reason, to me anyway, y’all might relate to things I’ve seen or done.

Your friend is the guy we should all aspire to be. I'm old and grumpy, but I love to teach new guys stuff if they really sincerely want to learn. I have one guy now that just drinks it up. Makes no excuses for mistakes, and gets me over when he is lost.
He just cranked out a 3406E inframe and its a total success.
