I just came across an old picture of my Insley,before i got the bright idea of making it into a crane back in the mid 80 s.I still have it as a crane,but ive also got the backhoe front. Id like to put it back as a backhoe one day in my spare time.

Any idea what year ? Cab looks just like our 1953 truck mount K-12 .

Moved " Old Roy " in to bail out a couple farm ponds .

I'm due for a job where I don't need carry a tape measure or calculator . LOL !

Had a little trouble this afternoon …..

Popped the main line drum cable and the whip end ended up in the drink . Waded in and got it spliced back with some cable clamps so we could get the bucket back on land for new cable .

OK . It's 4:00 PM and no one has any 5/8 cable on hand ….. What to do ?

Sure enough there sat my buddy Gene at the corner stool .

" Hey Gene , you got any 5/8 wire rope back at the farm ? "

He had a 250' roll of army surplus on hand . Slid him a couple C notes and off we went .

Buddy Gene never throws anything away and keep's a pretty good inventory of odd's & ends .

Got it cut & reeved back on the drum yet this evening . Back on line in the morning .

All the threads on where to buy wire rope …… Check out the local tavern first . LOL ! " Beer Chug "

I just throw wood on the ground to level it up .

The K-12 handles a 1/2 yard bucket with 45 ' boom on rubber pretty good .

Oh … He flops around a little side to side but not to bad , about like running a rubber tire Gradall .

Things went better today ! Finished rigging the bucket up .

Backed " Old Roy " on to the dam . The cows pasturing on the property did not leave me any to much earth to play on but we made it work .

When I move rigged up we stow the boom over the rear & chain it to the tail board . Swing brake works but don't trust it on slopes when moving .

Hopped out of the cab after I got in position …. Dang that was a big step down , damn near rolled in to the barb wire fence . LOL!

Hope these fellers I'm working for got good insurance in case I get scuffed up on this job. LOL!

Td, Why do you have the dead end of the wire attached to the load line in the top pic? I have always pulled enough through the wedge to double the dead end and clip it together. I've seen three cranes red flagged by OSHA for that, Had a boss that insisted we had to clip the tail to the load line. Guess which cranes got red flagged?

Got the first pond bailed out & moved on to the next one .

Prepped it with the skid loader first taking out trees & building a causeway for Old Roy . Those two make a pretty good team but don't tell them I said that . LOL !

Anyone know where to put Freon in these K-12 cranes ? It's blowing hot air out of the evaporator core . Or is that the radiator ? Oh well .

Once worked around a fella could cast a American Dragline like a open face reel. Could almost get the bucket to twice boom length.

Yep , on the last pond in post #17 I could reach it all from one position just with a strait cast .

You can play a funky move just after releasing the bucket on the cast by pulling in the main line to gain momentum and as the bucket reaches it's total swing through the curve let both drums go . It's like throwing a fast ball at a water moccasin .

Got done this evening with the second pond . Old Roy did fine .

I like this system as the machine is setting high & dry in the middle of the dam and let the bucket do the work .
