i have this ingersol rand air compressor that runs with the air valve open. But when the air valve is closed to build up air pressure the engine stalls and shuts down. Since the compressor motor runs fine with the air valve open before starting engine I am ruling out the fuel filter and air filters. But once I start to close the air valve engine stalls and shuts down. Anyone seen this issue?

Correction. This is a garden Denver pull trailer compressor. It looks like the ingersol rand 185.

How do you rule out filter with an unloaded running engine. fuel requirements ramp up quite fast when you load an engine .

If fuel filters dont help it i would find out what fuel supply pressures are supposed to be for whatever engine you have in it and thwn check the fuel suply pressure to be sure its in spec

Replaced fuel filter and fixed air leak from a line at the unloader valve. Shut the main air line valve slowly and compressor stayed on. Took like 2 tries and on the second time it worked like it should. This is a screw type air compressor and has the square glass fuel filter.
