from the evidence so far im surprised the dealership isnt offering to rebuild the engine and fix all for free as the cause of the engine failure is looking 100% cats fault, if this went to court and the 3 ring circus of a dealer is presented to a jury they would award all kinds of good things to the original OP including down time of dozer and OP aggravation expenses( all the time spent on trying to get his dozer fixed) , alot more cost to the dealer than just getting it fixed...I hope you go for the jugular on the dealer, anything less they dont deserve....

Agree on the idea that a partially plugged radiator would not cause a catastrophic engine failure in a short run across a field doing some minor pushing of dirt. And if it was going to be causing a problem they should have caught it when doing the test run and stall checks while it was at the shop!

Give me a break that cooling system if working at 100% should have little trouble maintaining correct temperature when working at 100% load on a 100ºF day unless the operator was so dumb as to be running it fourth gear while trying to push a full blade of dirt.

I always tried to measure the amount of coolant I put in an engine, at least to know it was close to the amount that the book called for if I could find that information. It's one thing if the book calls for 12 gallons and you just drained and refiled the system with fresh coolant to not get the full 12 gallons back in as there might be places that did not drain 100%. But on a major tear down that included replacing liners you should be able to get very close to the 12 gallons. Might have to start and let it warm up till thermostats opened to get that last couple gallons in.

And don't get me started on the BS of the water pump being a little out of spec's, that's just one more example of either poor work procedures for not checking it on a machine that had a possible over heat problem or just not careful test running after assembly.

I'm suspecting that the guy who screwed this machine up is someone's relative or drinking buddy and they are just trying to push the blame off on to someone else!

Right on Hobby.. "Its obvious to the casual observer" what has happened.. that's IF we're getting the full story. IMO
well thats also true, we are getting just the OP side of the story, I dont think he would leave out important details, but anything is possible, it could be he finally woke up and figures the dealer is bending him over a barrel and giving it to him dry and now hes ready to fight for what he deserves..a good running machine...at no further cost to him..time will tell and its been an interesting ride so far...
many times it takes the whole thing to soak in till the OP digests it and goes from beaten down emotionally and financially to the raging lunatic he should have been by getting constantly screwed over by the dealer and now its the dealers turn to get beaten..hopefully that is the real story and the OP finishes on top...hey you got one hell of a cheering squad in your corner Mr Steve...dont stop now...

This just comes down to an individuals personality. Some ppl fly off the handle at every little slight, some never say a peep, most of us will take some kind of beating before we snap.

With myself, I'm finding as I get older, I tend to snap a lot quicker ;)

LOL..agreed...I can understand OPs reluctance in the beginning to make waves as I understand hes in a small town setting and didnt want to rock the boat and hoped the dealer would do the right thing, till it became evident he was going to take it deep and hard with no lube...as time goes by my patience for poor service has slipped down to almost 0, and you would be surprised what becoming a hard nose im not gona take it attitude and (now with technology and social media ) and the threat to go public with a problem gets the wheels greased usually rather quickly...

We don't know if the water pump is working or internal passages are blocked or anything else. It got hot enough to melt a piston twice and burn up a valve. They ruled out over fueling.
I don't know how internal passages could be blocked, anything is possible, I guess. The longblock engine from Capital Exchange looked clean when I got it,everything bolted up nicely , no noticeable problems. It will be an interesting meeting tomorrow with the results of the professional failure analysis report. I still think that the failure has not been solved.

I agree with you on the failure issue Steve. In reference to the Wesj post you quoted. I don't remember you mentioning a burned up valve?

Is your lawyer going to the meeting? No way I'd go somehwere to get ganged up on at this point. Think of all the people they will have to testify against you then.... "Oh yes, he agreed that the dealership did not cause this issue" x3-4 people. Certified mail communication only from this point

I will get the full report tomorrow morning. I am pretty sure that they mentioned that the head needs to be sent in ,exchanged for a new head .The valves showed extreme heat damage, valves were starting to melt .I will find out tomorrow morning.

Even if your lawyer doesn't go, don't go alone. Take a friend, wife...somebody. Even if all they do is listen. In Oklahoma you can record a conversation without consent of other parties. Not sure in Mn. If legal I darn sure would.

You can record anything as long as you mention it. If they object, NO MEETING! DEFINETLY take someone along, preferably your lawyer. If 75% of what you've told us is true, they should be discussing how they're going to fix your machine. Steve, do not go to the meeting alone under ANY circumstances! I say this based on how you've reacted on here. You don't want to admit any fault on your part and I can just see the dealer and whoever else wearing you down trying to somehow make you believe you did something wrong. The only thing (without knowing at the time) you did wrong was trusting them to fix your engine. It's not that you're a bad guy but just the opposite, I think you're too nice and in this case nice went out the door month's ago. You shouldn't say ANYTHING!!! Let them explain their incompetence. That's where paying your lawyer would be well worth it. It almost sounds like they left a rag stuffed in the coolant passage and forgot about it. I only say this because I've seen it on dirt bikes where people have left a rag in the intake when cleaning the air filter and forgot about the rag.

If the radiator was plugged badly enough to toast the fresh engine, surely the tractor would have been chronically overheating prior to the initial failure, or have I missed something?

Steve, I have seen some very coolant related overheated engines and NEVER seen a melted valve! A melted valve would HAVE to be caused by combustion temps extremely high. Again their story is NOT jiveing with the symptoms!!!!

Just say you're setting up a conference call with several other machine owners and mechanics so nothing gets missed.
