I got word yesterday that a TY-90 on a T100 HD self-propelled carrier was laying on its side near Forks. Sad to see another one go down.

Hi Murk, not sure if you get same format as me, but on multiple pictures, once they've done their % downloading bit and are all lit up the same, I just hit the top right "insert every image as a... full image" button once, and that brings them all up. Maybe you're clicking all the "insert" buttons, plus the top one as well?
Great pictures anyway, doubles are fine!
All the best mate.

I did.
No injuries but the outfit has had a bad run of crashes lately. It's too bad as they are a great outfit too.

Just a quick question. The 6355 operators manual states

Pull clutches are hydraulic operated, 26” dia x 7” wide internal expanding BFG located outside of main frame. Machines with S/N S5188 and previous use air-operated, 36” diameter x 5” wide internal expanding shoe style.

So how many machines were built after S5188?

Furpo that picture worked great, nice setting. I like the red shed, who is that used by- truck drivers, or fuel cans and saws etc?
I can see some other grab frame in distance on the road, the thing I love about seeing pictures on here is the smaller details in the corners of pictures. Cheers mate.

Cheers John

The little red shed is for the q.c. (quality control). All our export and sawlog grades are checked and branded. We call it the safe zone. It's not usually up against a surge pile from the processor. Two of us went out and got ahead. It is handy it that if we move or change the skid around you just pick it up with the loader and move it. The other one is a fuel tank.

R.I.P. Mike.
May you be yarding big turns on easy ground now.

Here's a nice machine!

Mike Plaas of Eatonville Washington picked up a used TY-90 on T100 trailer in the Morton Wa area and brought it in to be re-built. In the meantime, Sholes Logging of Aberdeen sent an old Skagit BU-90 on a T-100 Self-Propelled to RB Auction, and Mike Plaas and Bill Paulson (and myself) happened to be standing there looking at it. It was agreed that if it sold cheap enough, the T-100 SP could be re-built and the TY-90 hoist mounted on that instead. It did.
Needless to say, the Skagit BU-90 was pulled off and the Self-Propelled carrier was rebuilt and a downdrive was added to the TY-90 to make it run the carrier. The Skagit trailer that originally carried the TY-90 was sold off, and the new yarder emerged from the McPaul shop as it appears below. The paint was automotive-quality with 2 coats of cover clearcoat at a cost paid by Mr Plaas of $18,000.00.

Mike Plaas logged with it at Kapowsin for several years before selling it overseas.

The rebuild took place in the winter of 1995/1996.

I remember it being said back in the 2008 era that these new Tier 4 engines would never work on a yarder because of all the idle time punctuated with the yanking on the throttle.

Now that 10 years has passed, what has been the actual experience with this?

Hard question to answer because there are so few new yarders. Most of those are just rebuilt enough to work for a couple of more years or so until the government decides whether or not they will drop the hammer on what can be run.
