Cool project. Another question for you. Why the stick cylinder on the bottom of the stick and boom and not on top like a conventional excavator?

It's setup with a forestry twist, so it will have huge lifting capacity, the boom cylinder is from a 70, the stick cylinder is the boom cylinder from the jd50. Also keeps everything safe and protected.

Trackgrip in NZ make bolt on grousers that take very little time to install. With those you can have the best for all ground conditions. Well done on your build.
We have cleats in the plan, that's a great point, whether it will be add ons to make it like a single bar grouser or ice cleats has yet to be determined. I just went to another dirt pile to max it out, and see what it would do,and this is the result.

As you can see that is a bit more slope than it will level it, but that's pretty extreme, the bucket is full of wet clay and there is no counter weight on the machine but it's surprisingly stable.

The angle measured there is 30 degrees of tilt with the machine which translates to a 57% slope. I wouldn't want to be in anything steeper than that without winch lines.

Hmm I'll have to look into that! Cost is an issue too... Steel and welding is low cost. ;)

That is real impressive! Nice work. I'm sure you will have plenty of work for it in the near future.

Now that people have an idea what can be done you might find some copycats soon.

Haha ya, there's more coming, we started on a tilt rotator today for 360 rotation on the attachments, should be awesome to run. ;) but interest is buzzing around here, I don't think it will be hard to keep busy.

That's awesome!!! Nice work.

Thanks!

Took it to the scale today to see where I'm at, 13,500lbs so far. Not bad for the amount of steel in it. No tin body work on this thing!

You can't beat a tiltrotator for speeding up awkward work. Definately a good addition to the machine. I have one on each of my excavators and wouldn't be without it.

Building your own tilt roter? How close to the tracks can you get with your bucket. Looksvery good.

I've only run tilt buckets, so ya the rotator is exciting!

Yes, cutting the tilt parts today and in the morning, we're using a worm gear rotating device from something else, it should be pretty tough. With this old John Deere bucket this is where it sits, we're building new buckets and a rake to fit the tilt rotator, and that extra length should get it almost to the tracks.

I spy CBS mudflaps on that truck. BC?

Ya I'm from Kamloops, building this machine in south Surrey.
