I know a guy near here who has a running Toro-flow diesel that he fixed up and put in a Chevy pickup.

He suspects it may be the only running Toro-flow left.

Can anyone confirm or deny this idea?

Used to be a F-250 running around here with a Toro-flow V-6.

Back in the early 60's the company that hauled the milk from our dairy had a GMC like this one except it was green and black with the 702 cu. in. V12 gas pot.
5 sp with two sp axle. pulled a 35 ft tanker. It had chrome straight pipes that you could hear well over a mile away.

I know of a cabover GMC with the 702. The owner used to haul hay with it, he said the gas mileage was abysmal.

There's one in Clarkston, Wa just up the road from me that runs. Smokes pretty hard though.

Gas mileage was non existent with one of those buggers. Was that cab over a Cracker Box?

What I don't understand is why these gas guzzlers ever saw the light of day. Yes I know gas was 20 cents a gallon but inflation makes it higher then than now. How could they afford to feed them?

I think a lot of it was the cost to buy and maintain the early diesels. And performance... There were a lot of big gas engines in the 50's and early 60's that beat the diesels in both power and reliability.
Imagine the old Hall Scott 1091 CI engines at 375HP running Butane fuel that was really cheap in some parts of the country. I think the same engine was 300HP on regular gasoline.
in 1969 my grandfather was still hauling D-8 Cats on a big Peerless 3 axle lowboy using a big old IH K-series tandem with a 501 gas engine and had a bunch of K- series dumps with the 450 gasser. His answer was "if you gotta worry about the gas bill... you ain't makin' money".

Junkyard, I posted some pics of this B-71 on here sometime ago. 1956 B-71 220 Cummins. I have been after it for years but the guy wants more than I can spend. He want's for nothing.
It's hidden away from sight on his wheat farm. I noticed last year there was some rust starting to develop now. Mack only made 522 B-71's. If anyone knows of someone with deep
pockets I will show them where it's at. I hate to see it go to hell. 225,000 miles or so

I'll see what my buddy says. We chased a guy for years that had a B model dump with the little V8. Never did get a deal done. How deep do the pockets need to be? Lol. I agree, I hate watching good old iron turn to a pile of rust.

In regard to the gassers. I'd LOVE to have something with Hall Scott power. Some of that old stuff is just too cool.

I can tell you I offered him 5K for it and he turned his nose up at that. So who knows what it will take.

Some of the rare Macks bring good money in that shape. I sold my B81SX for $7,500 and it was rough. Ran good and drove good but had rust. Those were pretty rare too.

Now here is one I'm sure not a lot of you have seen. In the mid 60's the feedlot next to our dairy had a Studebaker Diesel. It had tandem axles with a Detroit and 4x4 boxes.
It had a auger box on the back. The pic below is best I could find to show what one looked like. A big Studebaker pickup.

I see 2 sticks, a retarder and new ac parts, so far so good, now need some more pics! We will be starting to fix up the 900A longhood with 3408 that my boss has soon, I will get some pics of that soon. It had ac but it is all gone so we will be replacing everything with new, a few pics of how the hoses are routed actually would be pretty helpful. None around here to look at!

Working on more info and pics. A friend stumbled onto an entire fleet of them...... trying to ascertain what their plans are for them and see if we can't get our hands on a couple if not all of them.
