I was wondering if anyone knows of a source for roll up pouches for wrenches. The one I have now is 3/8"-11/4" and the field use and service truck riding around have pretty much worn it out. I like just grabbing the whole set and taking it out to the job. What do you all think?

Take the old one to your local upholstery shop and have them copy it in heavy canvas. I had it done once and had them add 4 Velcro strips to make it more secure.

Or take an old pair of coveralls and make one yourself.

As you have the old one for a pattern it would only take a few minutes to sew up a new one, or am I the only guy here who knows how to use a sewing machine?

Here is a picture of one like the one I learned on, wish it was still around, very easy to use! The electric one I use these days can get going way to fast! but then that one is probably older than me too, it was my mom's!

If you want a really good one, I would have a leather one made at a harness shop you'd never wear it out.

Yes it will wear a long time but will severely corrode the wrenches. I made the mistake of leaving a Ruger Single Six in a leather holster for 2 months or less, and it was pitted and discolored to the point where it has no value but still shoots well. The chemicals in leather are nasty.

True Value Hardware sells Bucket Boss brand and they make a nice wrench roll. It will not work with larger wrenches but they have slots for 11 wrenches. I have a half dozen of them, well made

A company called Ergodyne-Arsenal makes a nice canvas 14 pocket roll. Model 5782. I bought mine from Amazon. About 25$. I use them for my wrench sets. Very heavy duty.

Here is a link to ones I buy locally, they are cheaper local than on amazon, I paid $15.99 for one last Monday. I own six now and I noticed I have a couple more wrench sets rattling around in the truck that need to be rolled up. They are well made, roll up tightly and have a draw string. They do not like large wrench sets, the small pockets are too tight and shallow to stuff larger wrenches in.

Every time I bought a new set of combination wrenches, the first thing I did was remove the wrenches from the pouch and throw away the pouch. I didn't know people actually had any use for them. Seems like you would spend a lot more time getting wrenches and putting them away.
If I had only known...I would have saved them all and put them on ebay.

I like the wrench rolls for a couple of reasons;
I can label the outside of the roll as to SAE or Metric so its fast to grab the whole roll out of the tool box
It keeps them from rattling around in the back of the service truck, or 2500 Express van in my case.
And i can have the type of wrench thats in the roll labelled, i.e. thin, stubby, ratcheting, long, etc.

I hate digging through tool box drawers to find one wrench, drives me nuts. I try to stay organized. I even have one drawer just for 10mm wrenches and sockets, since i always seem to misplace those dang things :)

Without the roll pouch, finding the size may be more difficult. Some manufacturers mark them well, others faintly. They should mark both sides! Before I needed reading glasses, it was easy to recognize sizes. Now I get confused. At this late stage in my life I have a dozen different brands of tools and I recognize the 7/16 combination wrench because it's a Challenger and chrome is worn off, 9/16" deep socket because it's the only Blackhawk socket and so on. All one brand is inconvenient. Of course it's easy to discern a stubby or ratcheting wrench by glancing at it. I have a drawer for SAE wrenches and a drawer for metric. Good idea about the 10mm drawer, I went to pawn shops and got several spare 10 mm tools so I will always have enough.
Bottom line for me, a roll pouch is just that many more steps before I get the job done.

I know a guy that has most of his wrenches color coded with paint. 9/16 is yellow, 1/2 is green, etc. 1/4 sockets up and combination, crow foots, all on the same color code on common sizes up to an inch. He doesn't have enough colors for every oddball size but it makes finding the rest easier when you don't look at the color coded ones.

Ken, I think you should put your sewing machine to work and start selling them tool pouches. Now that's a retirement gig that I have not heard of before.

I'm looking for a wrench roll for my larger wrenches. It would have to be a straight roll, not a wedge like the normal wrench roll. I'm putting together a kit to take into buildings to do hydraulic hose repairs so these are very large wrenches, 24mm to 76mm, I carry two wrenches at each fitting size, so it needs to be a large wrench roll

If you're toting around 76mm sounds like a wrench cart is in order!

No kiddin! I deal with a wide range of products. Everything from electric pallet jacks to side loaders that can pick up a chevy suburban and take off with it. The main hydraulic fitting from the pump on a Lancer side loader is 76mm. That is a very difficult hose to get to and get out of there.

The main reason I like using a wrench roll is the ease of accounting for all my wrenches. I hate planting tools on a job and not realizing until later that one (or more) is missing. Usually I just got careless and put the missing tool in the wrong place, but too often they are never seen again.
