It was pretty rough there for a while with as dry as it is down here, no rain for over a month and everything is a tender box.

Rumor has it is the trackhoe snagged a grounding pin attached to the pipeline. I am not familiar with pipeline construction to know exactly how big that type of pin is or how it's attached to the pipeline and ground ring.

When the line exploded it could be heard many miles away. I was talking with an officer friend of mine today and he told me the area SWAT teams were activated because they had no idea when it happened, what happened.

In September there was another leak on the same line not far away from this explosion that disrupted fuel supplies on the east coast.

It's been a rough couple of months for the pipeline around here.

There are two pipeline operators with separate lines running through this area. The pipelines run from the refineries in Texas and Louisiana up the east coast. When we were kids the pipelines were like super highways for dirt bikes and 4 wheelers. We would ride them for miles.:D

The picture of the melted truck is unreal. When I saw the headline I assumed it was natural gas, but it was regular gasoline right?

It was gasoline from the reports. There are two lines that run side by side. One carries diesel, kerosene and jet fuel, the other carries gasoline.

There are two petroleum pipeline operators with separate pipelines crossing this area of the state - Colonial and Plantation. Both companies have "tank farms" near me.

The Colonial pipeline services the Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville areas of Tennessee. The tank farm here in Knoxville, where all the brands fill their tank trucks, supplies fuel to all of NE Tennessee, parts of SE Kentucky, and parts of SW Virginia. The pipeline continues on to North Carolina then heads up the east coast, I think it terminates in New Jersey. A big chunk of the country is affected when that pipeline goes down.
