This one is only meant to be used a couple times a year to keep little used Rds open on the property.this is reason for the cheap frontier by JD. We have a big JD batwing for mowing some larger areas but I have to fix the tractor first it us having fuel issues . Junk is plugging something up I just need time to go thru it.

I feel your pain Walker. It's been a recurring tail wheel removal issue on my brush hog. I've heard more excuses than Carter has pills.

I find that interesting about the gearbox.

I don't know anything about deck mowers except my Dad has one he bought used like 25 years ago and I've seen that thing spit more rocks, sticks, brush, dirt, you name it, he keeps a spare set of blades and welds on layers of bead before sharpening.

It is made by Gearmore for what it's worth. It has been very impressive all these years what it puts up with.

new stuff is not made like the older stuff at all gearboxes are so so depending on brand and this thing has a super thin deck on it nothing like the brush hog i used to run that was made in the early 70's , I used to cut laying logs in half with it and hit a few rocks with it and it would barely leave a dent in it .

this bugger went back together good . I ended up with 2 handfulls of shift yoke peices for the wheel lock . I will give volvo kudos for building a tough rearend gear. looks like everypeice was in the gear set at one time and only found 2 very small chips on the unloaded back edge of the pinion gear closest to the power divider side . so far so good been running around for a week so far .

What happened exactly to the C18??

cat will have engine out tommorrow then we can see up her cylinder .#4 rod broke right above the big end looks like the crankshaft webbings are all broke free from the block also as the crank is pretty close to the big hole , this happened at an idle , unsure of exact cause i may never know the truth of it as this is all warranty. will post more tommorrow when i know more

sorry I never replied so apparently after multiple egr coolers failing and having a little bit of coolant getting into cylinders what cat is determining is rods are getting tweaked a little bit , on an engine that didnt disintergrate as bad as mine they found all the pistons coming up to different hights and almost immeasurable bend on the connecting rods , my engine went thru 7 egr coolers before it blew . new engine has blown 2 of the old ones now they have been redesigned and have a new supplier new mounting bracket i already blew one of those up also so far this one is good , knock on wood . i only have one problem left on this machine and that is it never shows a soot load and only regens on hrs since it was new , i need to query some other sites with 836k to see if theres do that too we have about 40 of them trhought the company . last big problem i had that seems to be fixxed now is the ard head contstantly plugging fuel injector , after they replaced the flexible fuel lines to it problem has stayed away we thing the inside of the flexible portion was falling apart and getting into injector . some ard heads only lasted 3 days and the best we were getting was 3 weeks out of one

Checking for hydrolock has become a standard for me when I encounter a egr cooler failure. Two complete engine rotations by hand usually let's you know which way to proceed.

i have the feeling when this machines extended warranty is up it is going to be replaced , knock on wood if this new style egr cooler holds up and they get the last regen issue sorted it may end up being a good machine , the head was removed 3 times on the original engine. this has become such a problem if the operator calls me up and says the coolant left the sight glass he keeps it running till i get out there to see if it is a hose or something else , if i dont see a hose leaking i pop the easy to get to heater hose off the engine have him shut it down and dump the coolant in the landfill then call cat up and say guess what , thankfully these phone calls have almost stopped

Looks to be a mess where you are!! C18 did not need much help to grenade.
that one let lose at a dead idle i can only imagine what it would have done at full song pushing a bladefull of garbage across the landfill
