Yesterday 7-17-16 the company I work for lost two tractor/trailer rigs in an eight hour period. Total loss. Fortunately the drivers are OK. We haven't had
any incidents in seven years and then bang all at once. And neither incident was our fault. One was a head on with a pickup that crossed the median and
hit our rig in the left side fuel tank, it burned to the ground. the people in the pickup are OK also. A day of nothing but crap. I will go to work this morning
and wipe $375,000 dollars worth of equipment off the service board. Crap happens fast!

Not a good day. Now the crap of dealing with the insurance companies starts.

That can be the worst of all of it. Back when I had multiple trucks on the road, I had one running down I-26 in the middle of the night, running 72 in a 70 zone, and a guy in a car ran into the back of it going so fast he spun off and took out 6 cars behind them. My truck wasn't hurt, but he was pulling a customer's trailer, that got the DOT bumper folded up under it, and other minor damage. The guy told his insurance company he must have had a seizure, and since he never had one before, they declared it an act of god, and refused to pay for anything but his car. I ended up just fixing the trailer to save the hassle.

Even though one burned and footage destroyed, we installed dash cams in our trucks for liability reasons and to cut through some BS.

A smart idea. quite a few of my trucker friends are running dash cams now also.

Wow, stuff happens fast. You can never trust the other drivers on the road. lately Ive had a few close ones and it's really starting to rile me up. Mostly idiots that want to pull out in front of you to save 5 seconds.

The 'quality' of driving in general has been steadily declining for years. Just today I was on the interstate and watched a SUV ahead of me cut across at least 3-4 lanes to barely make an exit. The kicker was, there was a local police vehicle traveling beside me that absolutely had to see it happen and did nothing about it. He probably figured 'no harm no foul'. IMHO until these officers start cracking down on the stupidness it's only going to keep getting worse. Truckshop I feel for ya. Everyday is a crapshoot out there. Since you hadn't had an incident in 7 years, you were probably due. But not due for 2 in one day!!!!! Hope all goes well with the insurance co.

And if you look closely at the a**holes on the road its because of these darn mobile phones. I counted 17 either talking or texting on their mobiles while driving on the freeway this morning in a distance of +- 9 miles. One women actually ran in to the back of a lowboy with a D8H on it. How the hell do you do that in slow moving traffic if you pay attention to driving ?

For the last year the other mechanic and I that run the shop have been saying the company is over due for a major wreck. We had one fourteen years ago
that had the odds of Power Ball.

Two older ladies ran a stop sign at a place called Wallula Junction, US 12 and 730. We had a semi headed west bound and another headed east bound that
met at the same time they ran the stop sign. Both trucks hit that car, the one headed west tagged it and spun the car in front of the east bound.
It was a fatality, real bad.

I think the cops got to go thru some of the same bs that you are talking about to and may be a reason why they don't do as much cause it ain't worth it to them when their job might be in the line with some of the sue happy people these days.
